Are you passionate about marine surveys, species identification and love being in the laboratory with your microscope? If so, then we would be delighted to hear from you! We have an opportunity for an established benthic taxonomist to join our growing team in Guildford.

As part of our marine team, you will be involved in benthic faunal sample analysis for a variety of exciting projects from both the UK and abroad. You will participate in environmental surveys to collect samples for subsequent analysis. You will be given the opportunity to further your taxonomic identification skills from world experts and will be involved in other areas such as reporting and Particle Size Analysis. You will need to already have experience of working in a commercial laboratory, processing benthic faunal samples.

You’ll need to have:

  • experience in benthic faunal sample processing in a commercial laboratory
  • experience in identification of macrobenthic and epibenthic species
  • a degree in Marine Biology or a related subject
  • the ability to work to the pressures of a commercial laboratory
  • an enthusiastic attitude and willingness to learn.

ideally, you will also have:

  • experience of conducting environmental surveys in intertidal and subtidal environments
  • experience of planning environmental survey work
  • experience in producing technical reports on benthic ecology
  • experience in Particle Size Analysis

This position is available on a permanent basis. You'll be based at our modern office on the picturesque Surrey Research Park in Guildford, so you’ll need to live within commuting distance or be prepared to relocate.

Shortlisted candidates will be expected to undertake a technical assessment to demonstrate their skills in the identification of fauna.
