Team

The EU policy team, which is located in Brussels in the Mundo Matonge office and part of the Policy Directorate at ShareAction, advocates for changes in sustainable finance policy and financial regulation in the European Union. Its objective is to strengthen the rules and regulations that govern the financial sector, with the goal of building an economy that is good for people and the planet.

This vacancy also supports the work of ShareAction’s communications team, which leads media and digital activity to inspire public and specialist audiences to support more responsible investment. The team is also responsible for shaping and maintaining ShareAction’s brand and raising its profile.

Position

This is an exciting new role to help ShareAction deliver its communications objectives in support of our EU policy goals. We’re looking for a great communicator who is passionate about our mission to harness the power of investment to build a better world. The EU Communications and Media Advisor will work alongside the policy team in Brussels to develop and deliver communications activity, with strategic oversight, support, and guidance from senior communications colleagues in the UK. They will also play a role in coordinating joint communications activity carried out with members of our European Responsible Investment Network (ERIN), a network of European NGOs working on responsible finance issues.

What you’ll do

  • With the support of senior communications colleagues, design and carry out integrated media and communications activity to increase awareness of ShareAction’s impact and priority messages among target audiences, advising the EU policy team on approach.
  • Be the key contact for ShareAction’s press office in Brussels: building and maintaining relationships with key journalists, drafting and pitching press comments and opinion pieces, and providing timely responses to media requests. Some very occasional out of hours working may be required to support major launches or urgent enquiries.
  • Support EU spokespeople to engage effectively with the media, by briefing and preparing talking points, and providing constructive feedback.
  • Coordinate joint communications activity carried out with members of our European Responsible Investment Network (ERIN) of NGOs.
  • Keep up to date with the news agenda on relevant topics, identifying opportunities to comment.
  • Collaborate with digital and policy colleagues to develop accessible, engaging messaging and content suitable for ShareAction’s public channels, such as social media and blogs.
  • Support the development of key EU policy position papers, such as checking alignment with tone of voice, and where appropriate supporting on formatting using in-house branded templates.
  • Contribute to EU events planning and outputs from a communications perspective.
  • Contribute to the communications team’s monitoring and evaluation for EU-related activity, and contribute to broader team planning.
  • Be a brand champion, advising on content to ensure consistent tone of voice and messaging across our work.

Requirements

Essential

Applicants are expected to demonstrate how their work experience at a similar level meets the essential criteria of the position.

  • Experience in media relations and creating communications content to support organisational goals.
  • You’ll have a proactive approach and excellent written and verbal communications skills, with a flair for breaking down complex issues to produce compelling and accessible content.
  • You’ll be able to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced team and organisation.
  • You’ll be passionate about ShareAction’s vision of a world where the financial system serves our planet and people
  • With great interpersonal skills, you’ll be able to build productive relationships with colleagues across the organisation and key external contacts.
  • You’ll be able to design and deliver effective communications products for specific projects and audiences, and use tools to measure success.
  • Comfortable working with Microsoft Office suite

Nice to have, not essential

  • Knowledge or experience of communications within a campaigning or advocacy organisation
  • An understanding of the EU policy context in Brussels
  • Experience using Adobe packages such as InDesign and Photoshop
  • Experience working in a press office, agency or as a journalist
  • Knowledge of investment and the financial system

Other information

Contract type: Permanent

Salary: Gross monthly salary between €3100 and €3450, dependent on experience, based on 35-hour working week plus benefits (holiday allowance (5 extra legal days), 13th month, luncheon vouchers, monthly Brussels STIB-MIVB transport card).
