Position

Unity are looking for a Financial Controller to join the business in Aberdeen on a permanent, full time basis. This position would suit a qualified accountant who has experience managing a SME finance department, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and is looking for an opportunity to use their skills to help drive business performance. You will be working closely with the management team across our business.

The post holder will be responsible for the smooth running of the finance function across all locations, ensuring accurate and on time management reporting and supporting business performance with insightful business intelligence.

Key responsibilities will include the following:

  • Managing the month end process, performing reviews and assisting with month end journals as needed
  • Completing monthly consolidation of Unity entities
  • Liaising with all departments to provide insightful business intelligence to drive performance
  • Overseeing the processing of accounting transactional data, assisting where business needs require
  • Review of monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Monitoring ERP system for any financial issues
  • Support and review of VAT return filings
  • Regular forecasting of financial performance and cashflow
  • Assisting business functions with the preparation of budgets
  • Ensuring compliance with processes and procedures in place and improve procedures to ensure they are effective and efficient
  • Manage the yearend financial audit and corporation tax returns, providing required information to agreed deadlines
  • Travel to Great Yarmouth and Esbjerg, Denmark (and other sites as may occur) as required for proper fulfilment of role

Requirements

Job knowledge and experience

Essential:

  • CA/ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified with 2 years post-qualified experience minimum or similar
  • Previous experience working in a SME Financial Controller role or similar
  • Excellent organisation and prioritisation skills
  • Ability to use initiative to problem solve independently and provide concise advice
  • Analytical and solutions focused
  • Strong interpersonal skills essential
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, and crucially able to communicate financial issues to non-financial managers and business functions
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Experience of use of accounting software and Excel to intermediate level

Preferred:

  • Previous experience working in an oil and gas service company
  • Previous experience with Business Central or NAV
  • Advanced Excel skills
