Position

We are looking for an ambitious Bid Manager to continue to grow our business by securing multi-million pound projects, across our multitude of private and public sector clients. This is a permanent position based in our Head Office in Guildford or primarily remotely, with an office/home-working split based on business needs, and the location of the successful candidate. You’ll be joining a new Bid Management team at an exciting time of change and improvement initiatives, working within a rapidly expanding company in the environmental services sector.

You will be responsible for assisting in the identification of bidding opportunities and owning the entire bid processes for all Thomson service lines. You will be responsible for writing bids that help the company meet and exceed gross margin targets, as well as partnering with our technical teams and actively supporting them with winning new and repeat work. You may be an accomplished Bid Writer looking to transition into Bid Management, or taking the next step in your career from a Bid Management or Support role. Either way, there will be plenty of opportunities to develop, so a willingness and commitment to learning is an essential.

Requirements

Successful candidates will need

  • A background in, or appreciation of, environmental services (i.e. ecology, hydrology, landscaping or arboriculture), infrastructure (rail, highways or water), or tier one contracting
  • The ability to write clearly, accurately and persuasively
  • Competence with Microsoft software packages
  • Strong planning and organisation skills with proven ability to multi-task and handle several bids simultaneously
  • To be analytical with strong attention to detail and have a positive ‘can do’ attitude, adopting flexibility with working hours when necessary
  • An appreciation of preparing bids, tender responses, bills of quantities; and take pride in securing the work
  • A commercial mindset
  • To thrive in a fast-paced environment, taking accountability for submitting bids and proposals on time

Ideally you will also

  • Be APMP certified
  • Already be an expert or have the capability to rapidly become an expert in the understanding of multi-million NEC3 and 4 contract structures
  • Have a keen interest in the natural world
