Position

About the Food and Land Use Coalition at SYSTEMIQ

Launched in 2017, the Food and Land Use Coalition (FOLU), housed in SYSTEMIQ, brings together 13 partners to accelerate the transformation of food and land-use systems to deliver globally-agreed goals for sustainable development, biodiversity and climate. Integrated FOLU programs have begun in Australia, China, Colombia, Ethiopia, India and Indonesia, and the Coalition will grow its support in additional countries over the next three years.

FOLU is launching its first Global Report on 22 September 2019 in New York to persuade economic decision-makers to change the way food and land use systems operate through policy, business decisions and investment. There is a new website planned at the same

Ahead of this launch, FOLU requires careful media planning and relationship management, in order to best position and gain media coverage of the report, the work of our partners and in countries, as well help elevate our ambassador network.

Position

The media manager will play a key role in shaping and positioning FOLU’s distinctive voice with the press. His/her primary purpose will be to ensure FOLU is telling the best possible stories in engaging ways and across channels, with a specific focus on the Global Report launch. The media manager will work closely and collaboratively with other members of the communications team and across the Coalition to plan, shape and promote both corporate and project-related content.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the media manager for all pitching and coverage associated with the launch of the FOLU Global report
  • Serve as the media manager for all responses and op-eds by ambassadors and key stakeholders in support of the FOLU Global Report
  • Manage media briefings and messaging to key stakeholders on the FOLU Global Report
  • Support the curation of professional and engaging content including website stories, blog posts, thought pieces and multimedia
  • Identify opportunities for showcasing FOLU’s work and impact, including news and blogs
  • Craft distinctive messages and stories from across our network and align them with the overall FOLU narrative
  • Ensure company communications assets are consistent in language, tone and style
  • Contribute to and support the overall delivery of FOLU’s media strategy
  • Work with the FOLU communications manager to manage media monitoring reporting, as well as media pitching and planning
  • Work with the FOLU digital and content manager to manage the content for our website and social media channels including editorial planning
  • Work with the project team to ensure we are capturing their news and stories and supporting their communications activities where appropriate

Scope and monitor relevant news, messages and developments related to key FOLU issues, topics, partners and general ecosystem

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in communications, journalism or field related to sustainability
  • 5 years of related professional experience
  • Extensive writing and editing experience, must provide professional writing samples
  • Solid experience with and understanding of media / social media landscape
  • Experience in communicating sustainability-related matters to a range of audiences

  • Outstanding writing skills and passion for storytelling
  • Passion for communicating complex information in clear and compelling ways
  • Ability to multitask and work in fast-paced environment
  • High level of autonomy and ability to deliver with minimal supervision
  • Great organisational skills and high attention to detail
  • Collaborative approach and dedicated team player
