SYSTEMIQ was set up in 2016 to drive the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by transforming markets and business models in three key economic systems: land use, materials and energy. By addressing failures in these systems, SYSTEMIQ aims to unlock economic opportunities that benefit business, society and the environment. We do this through five activities:
To deliver in these areas, we recruit and develop distinctive and varied individuals who strive to achieve our mission, challenge the status quo and act as change leaders.
Formally launched during UN General Assembly week in September 2017, the Food and Land Use Coalition brings together an alliance of academics, businesses, investors, policy-makers and members of civil society. Together, Coalition members seek to make the case for transforming food and land use systems across the world by scaling opportunities to reshape them into powerful engines of growth.
The Coalition is working to: (i) develop science-based pathways for change, (ii) support countries with planning, policy and market redesign, (iii) accelerate shifts in business, value chain and investment strategies, (iv) empower a community of diverse leaders and (v) make a powerful case for rapid system transformation. We need to improve today’s food and land-use systems; but we also need to restructure them fundamentally in a way that combines environmental, social and economic goals.
The Coalition is made up of a Core Partners Group, which provides strategic leadership and oversight of operations across various initiatives. This group includes: the African Green Revolution Alliance (AGRA), the EAT Foundation, the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), the International Institute of Applied Systems Analysis (IIAASA), the Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN), SYSTEMIQ, Unilever, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), the World Resources Institute (WRI) and Yara.
The Coalition is supported by an International Ambassador Network, chaired by Paul Polman (CEO, Unilever) which is made up of a diverse range of over 30 senior figures who support the Coalition’s purpose and ways of working. They advise the Coalition and articulate its approach.
A key part of the work is at the country-level, where local stakeholders are developing their own vision and transformation roadmaps to deliver better nutrition, sustainable food production, climate resilience and shared rural prosperity.
We are also developing a shared global narrative, which will draw on the evidence and experience of country-based action, emerging business opportunities and public-private partnerships. This narrative will make the case for change clear to economic decision-makers and we hope, inspire a wider social movement to support bold, ambitious leadership across public and private sectors.
The Communications Manager will play an essential role in the FOLU’s ambition to make the case for the urgent transformation of food and land use systems. They will be expected to develop and implement the Coalition’s Communications strategy, the key elements of which are: (i) the launch of the FOLU Global Report in September 2019 and associated dissemination of key messages (both before and after launch), (ii) the communication of FOLU partner work, in countries and at an international level and (iii) Comms support for FOLU and partner messages at international events.
The Communications Manager will coordinate and collaborate closely with the Comms teams of other FOLU Core Partners
