Analytics Director

SYSTEMIQ Amsterdam Netherlands Analytiq

Company Description

SYSTEMIQ was set up in 2016 to drive the implementation of the Paris Agreement and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by transforming markets and business models in three key economic systems: land use, materials and energy. By addressing failures in these systems, SYSTEMIQ aims to unlock economic opportunities that benefit business, society and the environment.

We do this through five activities:

  1. Convene and support coalitions of leaders to shape policies and business strategies that will rapidly transform economic activity;
  2. Work with companies that want to be pioneers in and drivers of change towards more sustainable systems;
  3. Co-create and incubate the market solutions most likely to build regenerative economic systems
  4. Invest our own venture capital and expertise in opportunities with the biggest potential to drive rapid system change;
  5. Direct larger pools of capital into regenerative economic systems, enabling them to scale and multiply.

SYSTEMIQ is an equal opportunities employer. SYSTEMIQ’s recruitment and selection policy ensures the best possible skill mix of colleagues and the highest quality candidates are appointed using objective job-related criteria.

In order to deliver in these areas, we recruit and develop distinctive and varied individuals who strive to achieve our mission, challenge the status quo and act as change leaders.

Position

World-class analytics is not sufficient to drive true system-level change, but it is a necessary ingredient. As we scale, SYSTEMIQ builds out a robust and distinctive analytical capability and offering.

SYSTEMIQ has already had big successes in the area of analytics, as shown in our work in the Mission Possible Partnership, Breaking the Plastic Wave, Plastic IQ, PlastSimulator, among several others. We are now looking to scale and further professionalise these analytical capabilities into one central Analytics Hub.

The SYSTEMIQ Analytics Hub has four objectives:

  1. To be a driving force and catalyst of SYSTEMIQ’s mission through powerful analytics and tools.
  2. To make a significant contribution to SYSTEMIQ’s impact and economic success, while working collaboratively and supporting the objectives of other SYSTEMIQ platforms (energy, materials, nature) and impact vehicles. It is a revenue-centre, not a cost-centre.
  3. To create consistency and excellence in our analytical work by being the professional authority of anything analytics within SYSTEMIQ, also enhancing our ability to attract talent – like you, in this space.
  4. To strengthen and amplify our existing IP efforts by carrying over learnings, insights and data from project to project.

We are looking for another Director to join our Analytics Hub, preferably via one of our European hubs to help oversee SYSTEMIQ’s analytical work-programme. Primarily this will be about developing system models (most notably around country and decarbonization and energy transition modelling). The successful candidate will be responsible for developing analyses which answer some of the most complex and challenging questions on the road to a net-zero or net-positive economy, and for using these insights to help build consensus on critical actions for the next decade. The work includes all facets of the analytics process; techniques, organization, internal education and hiring.

This is an exciting opportunity to define the analytics platform at a growing and ambitious consultancy. The candidate will be one of SYSTEMIQ’s go-to expert on everything analytics, leading a central team of 5-10 specialists, working closely with all platforms.

The successful candidate will have an appetite to grip the big picture and the systems-implications of our work on decarbonization, material flows, nature and planetary boundaries, while also understanding the details underpinning analytical work and advanced modelling skills required. The candidate will be proactive and able to deliver autonomously, taking ownership for the set up of the team and its strategy, whilst progressively building out and linking up models and modules.

This role will initially report to two of our partners (Eveline Speelman, co-lead Energy Platform and Amsterdam Office Manager and Yoni Shiran, partner Materials Platform based out of London).
