Position

An exciting opportunity has become available for a Geophysical Operations Lead to support our Western Hemisphere operations team, based in Glasgow.


The Geophysical Operations Lead provides expertise and assistance in the delivery of geophysical projects from a technical, operational and safety standpoint. The candidate will coordinate the activities within the support functions of the business, offshore teams and respective clients.


The ideal candidate will have prior experience in the area of Geophysical offshore survey.

Responsibilities


  • Technical oversight of geophysical project surveyors supporting projects through their entire lifecycle, from award and acceptance of project material at the bid stage to planning, execution, completion and close-out. Support and guidance for any project variations that may arise.
  • Provide direction and technical support to geophysical project surveyors within the region to optimize geophysical survey operations.
  • Provide direction and quality control on proposed geophysical methodologies and data deliverables at the commercial stage.
  • Implementation and management of geophysical methodologies and procedures specific to geophysical data acquisition.
  • Produce and maintain the technical resources required in the execution of geophysical projects, including calibration calculation sheets, error budgets and calculation tools.
  • Responsible for QA/QC standards, for all technical data collection, processing, and deliverables, ensuring adherence to industry best practices in geophysical surveying.
  • Provide guidance to the geophysical project surveyors in identifying personnel skillsets, methods, and technology requirements for projects.
  • Provide guidance and direction to the geophysical project surveyors in identifying equipment and software requirements to deliver operations.
  • Provide guidance and direction to the assets manager for the mobilisation of geophysical equipment on Sulmara assets.
  • Assist survey manager in implanting process for new starts and contractors to faster align to the company’s processes, documentation and expectations.
  • Assist survey manager in directing geophysical processes and data workflows.
  • May be required to attend onshore / offshore worksites to support project teams if unforeseen circumstances require technical support.
  • Curate and maintain the existing knowledgebase, to maximise the value added by field staff and enable knowledge and experience to be shared across the company.
  • Assist in the mentoring, training, and development of geophysical technical abilities within Sulmara.
  • Involved with geophysical hiring in the region.

Qualifications / Experience


  • Masters degree in Geology, Geophysics, Geosciences, Hydrography, or related field preferred. Minimum of a bachelors degree.
  • Demonstrate experience and competency in the theory, collection, processing, and analysis of single/multi channel UHR Seismic data, Magnetometer data (array or transverse), Sub-bottom, Sidescan, Multi-beam, USBL and GNSS data.
  • Extensive experience within the offshore survey industry.
  • Excellent knowledge of the acquisition, processing and reporting of hydrographic survey data, including but not limited to SSS, SBP, MBES, Mag and Seismic (2D/3D).
  • Software Proficiency: Experienced with geophysical and seismic software such as SonarWiz, CODA, IHS Kingdom, RadEx Pro, Moga, Oasis Montaj, Magpick, Qinsy, Qimera, Eiva Suite, ArcGIS/AutoCad and other relevant tools for data QC.
  • Must hold a valid passport free from status or restrictive conditions that preclude travel to and work in countries where the Company routinely operates.
  • Must hold valid BOSIET / FOET / GWO and OGUK Medical or equivalent.
