Team

We know that decarbonising heavy industry will be a massive hurdle to jump to ensuring a 1.5C world. That’s why, this year, our climate team is building on our existing experience tackling cross-sectoral industrial decarbonisation, to focus in on the highest emitting sectors. There is a lot to do in a narrow window of time but we’re ready for the challenge.

Position

We are looking to appoint a Senior Research Officer to aid our work on the decarbonisation of heavy industry. This is an amazing opportunity to contribute to our deep dive work on those sectors that are viewed as the hardest to abate. You will produce innovative research insights to an audience keen to get a better understanding of how to effectively engage with the sectors facing the most significant challenges on climate.

What you’ll do

  • You will conduct and lead research on a broad range of topics linked to the intersection between climate change, financial services, and a number of industry sectors. Our current focus is European chemicals, but future work may include work on sectors such as the built environment, mining, power & transport;

  • You will draft reports and briefings for a range of audiences, including investors and companies;

  • You will support the climate campaigns team with ad hoc research, for instance to prepare for meetings or presentations;

  • You will work closely with our internal communications team to coordinate press and social media around publications;

  • You will identify new developments and trends in the external environment which may provide opportunities for our mission

Requirements

What you’ll bring to the team

  • You’ll have a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel and Powerpoint

  • You’ll have experience of leading or being part of a research project;

  • You’ll have a good understanding of how climate change affects companies in a range of sectors;

  • You’ll have an ability to write about complex topics in a direct and understandable manner;

  • You will have good analytical skills – the ability to quickly get to grips with new and complex subject areas, assimilate information, pull out the relevant points and communicate them to a wide variety of audiences;

  • You’ll have excellent written and verbal English being able to communicate to a variety of audiences;

  • You’ll be comfortable analysing, manipulating, and presenting quantitative information.

  • You’ll be able to plan, manage and deliver own work to agreed objectives and timelines, balancing competing priorities and reprioritising when needed;

It would also be great – but not essential - if you have:

  • Any experience working as an analyst in financial services or industry experience in any of the following sectors; mining, transport, power, chemicals, built environment

What we will do for you

  • You'll have our full support of our close knit Climate team, we hold weekly meeting and work together on projects. We meet in our London office at least once/month

  • You will receive training and opportunities for your professional development as well as being trained on all our software.

  • You will have the opportunity to represent ShareAction at a range of events

Other information

Hours: Full time (35 hours a week)

Contract type: Permanent

Who it reports to: Research Manager

Salary: up to £33,000 (dependent on experience) plus 8 per cent pension (non-contributory) and benefits including a healthcare scheme

ShareAction’s London office is based in vibrant Bermondsey and a short walk from London Bridge underground and national rail. Remote working will remain the norm for many ShareAction staff as we continue to face the Covid-19 pandemic, with office space available in London for those who wish to use it.
