Team

As part of the Finance and Operations team, you’ll play a crucial role in enabling the organisation to work effectively and efficiently. Our multi-faceted team proactively provides useful tools, information and support to staff, whilst also safeguarding the charity’s assets and managing risks. We’re a team of problem solvers, using our skills and experience to enhance ShareAction’s impact.

Position

As Senior Monitoring Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Manager you’ll design and oversee the embedding of a uniform MEL approach across ShareAction. This will involve working closely with staff across the organisation, providing them with the frameworks, tools and training to enable ShareAction to continuously develop our activities and demonstrate the impact of our work.

You’ll be the most senior expert in MEL in ShareAction, taking the lead in shaping our approach and making a vital contribution to the quality of our programmes, grants management and policy work.

What you’ll do

  • You’ll provide a consistent, efficient and effective approach to the delivery of MEL across ShareAction’s various teams.
  • You’ll lead on the development and implementation of ShareAction’s project MEL processes, linking with funder requirements and ShareAction’s organisational impact measures.
  • You’ll train and support managers and their teams to deliver the organisational MEL approach.
  • You’ll develop and embed relevant MEL tools and systems to guide and support good practice, contributing to a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
  • You’ll identify where developments to information management and analysis systems are needed, to better monitor and evaluate activities.
  • You’ll link with our business planning processes to ensure that our strategy is operationalised, creating a flow through from strategic goals to individual objectives and translating into a scorecard of organisational impact.
  • You’ll establish regular organisational impact reporting for internal and external audiences, including managing the organisation-wide impact dashboard
  • You’ll maintain the organisational theory of change and support the development of theories of change for directorate, programmes and projects across the organisation, ensuring that these are consistent with our organisational theory of change
  • You’ll work with internal and external stakeholders to review activities and develop case studies that demonstrate effectiveness and drive future funding
  • You’ll input into funding proposals for new programme activity, ensuring MEL is an integral component of each activity.
  • You’ll assist in the development of grant bids, including contributing to the development of assessment criteria, reviewing grant applications and reports.
  • You’ll monitor and evolve the MEL approach over time, ensuring it provides high quality, decision-useful information that helps to raise the quality and impact of ShareAction’s work

Requirements

What you’ll bring to the team

  • You’ll have experience designing and implementing cross organisational impact management strategies and frameworks, establishing processes and systems;
  • You’ll need a thorough understanding of key impact management concepts;
  • You’ll have strong communication and influencing skills, with the ability to effectively communicate plans to the internal team and engage them in the development of these to ensure success;
  • You’ll need an ability to build productive working relationships with internal stakeholders at all organisation levels;
  • You’ll be able to work independently and with a continuous improvement mind-set;
  • You’ll be able to understand ShareAction’s organisational vision and how all of our activities contribute towards this;
  • You’ll need to be self-motivated, with the ability to work autonomously;
  • You’ll have excellent communications skills, both written and verbal and the ability to communicate complex information and ideas;
  • You’ll have an exceptional organisational and time management skills with the ability to work under pressure, plan and prioritise work effectively and meet deadlines.
  • You would preferably have working knowledge of the investment system
  • Although not essential to the role if you have experience working in new and growing teams and/or experience of working with Google Analytics that would be a plus

  • You will gain valuable experience of shaping systems and processes in a growing organising
  • By working closely with teams across the organisation you will develop a deep understanding of the work we do and how it relates to our mission
  • Although the team does generally work from home we like to meet (frequently?) in our temporary office space. This space can be used at any point by booking a desk
  • Your team includes members who have strong knowledge of how we operate including being at the heart of business planning so will be on hand to support you

Location: Hybrid: London/Home

Contract type: Permanent

Salary: £40,000 to £45,000 per annum, pro rata, dependent on experience. Plus 8 per cent pension (non-contributory) and benefits including a healthcare scheme

ShareAction’s London office is based in vibrant Bermondsey and a short walk from London Bridge underground and national rail. Remote working will remain the norm for many ShareAction staff as we continue to face the Covid-19 pandemic, with office space available as described in London for those who wish to use it.
