ShareAction London United Kingdom Biodiversity

Company Description

ShareAction

We are at a pivotal moment: the climate and biodiversity crises are deepening, and inequalities are even more marked in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. The global investment system has an oversized impact on many of these global challenges. We want to make sure that impact is positive. At ShareAction we work with investors, policymakers and individuals to unleash the positive potential of the investment system. We aim to build a world where our financial system serves our planet and its people.

Team

ShareAction’s newly-launched and growing Biodiversity programme will work with asset managers, asset owners and banks to raise the profile of biodiversity loss, drive stronger biodiversity performance by corporates and improve policy and regulation to incentivise action to address biodiversity loss. In early 2022 we secured funding to enable us to launch the first phase of the programme and we are now building a team to drive progress towards a financial system that halts and reverses the biodiversity crisis.

Position

The destruction of our natural world is one of the most pressing crises we face today. Our survival as we know it is dependent on nature. Its destruction is undermining our societies and our global economy. Tackling the loss of nature will require urgent and transformative action by all actors, and the financial sector has a major role to play.

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Manager – Biodiversity to develop and deliver campaign strategies for company and investor engagement within ShareAction’s Biodiversity programme. They will oversee two campaigns: a sector-based campaign, initially addressing the harmful effects of the agrochemicals industry on nature and a place-based campaign, encouraging investors and companies to commit to protecting critical habitats that go beyond today’s baseline of World Heritage Sites.

What you’ll do:

  • You will be responsible for developing campaign objectives (which companies to target and what outcomes to seek) and strategies (with an emphasis on investor influence), as well as delivery of campaigns
  • You will develop and oversee an annual workplan of campaign and engagement activity
  • With the support of colleagues in the Biodiversity and Communications teams, you will produce campaign materials, including letters, AGM questions and external communications materials
  • You will work with the Head of Biodiversity to build and maintain relationships with investors, NGOs and other stakeholders to support our campaigns
  • You will lead on investor engagement activities with target companies to grow support for campaigns, including calls, meetings and other events held on 1:1 and in groups
  • You will build a team to support this work and line manage team members
  • You will deputise for the Head of Biodiversity as ShareAction’s spokesperson on biodiversity where appropriate
  • You will ensure that activity and outcomes are recorded in our systems and produce reports about these as required, to enable ongoing monitoring, evaluation and learning
  • You will provide input into team efforts to develop new areas of work, including contributing to funding bids, when required
  • You will play a role in wider team and cross ShareAction activity related to biodiversity to foster collaboration

Please note this list is not exhaustive and the role might change slightly from time to time.

Requirements

What you’ll bring to the team:

  • You will be able to demonstrate your knowledge of biodiversity loss and the action needed by corporate and financial sectors
  • You will have experience of promoting action by business to address nature loss
  • You will ideally have some understanding of the finance industry, in particular the role of asset owners, asset managers and banks
  • You will have experience or a working knowledge of third sector advocacy or campaigning organisations
  • You will be energised and excited by identifying, building and maintaining relationships with external stakeholders
  • You will have excellent written and verbal communications and can demonstrate experience of tailoring your message to a range of different audiences
  • You will be a natural collaborator and team-player making sure you get the best out of those you work with
  • You will be able to manage a range of competing priorities and deadlines
  • You will have experience of project management and applying monitoring, evaluation and learning in a programme

It would also be great – but not essential - if you have:

  • An understanding of the agrochemicals industry
  • Experience working with CRM systems, for example Salesforce
