Team

The Private Equity Senior Manager will sit with Asset Owner Initiatives team in the Financial Sector Standards (FSS) directorate. Roles within the team work closely and supportively with networks of asset owners, predominantly in the UK, to help them develop and implement higher standards of practice, and to engage with service providers (asset managers, banks, consultants) in their implementation.

Position

The FSS Directorate is strategically developing its workplan to cover new financial sectors, including private equity. This is an initial 12-month fixed-term contract role (with continuation dependent on outcomes from this phase) reporting to our Asset Owner Initiatives team that will involve building deeper relationships with our global network of asset owners (Limited Partner clients of private equity firms) on the topic of private equity and responsible investment. In addition to developing a stronger understanding of how Limited Partners are thinking about responsible investment in private equity, this role will gauge the appetite of Limited Partners in their willingness to support potential public benchmarking of General Partner firms on responsible investment.

What you’ll do

  • You will be developing a framework for short-listing an agreed target of 40 Limited Partners (asset owners) for targeted outreach. ·

  • You will contribute to developing our strategy and Theory of Change for the private equity financial sector.

  • You will build and develop relationships with a target of 40 international Limited Partners (LPs) on the topic of private equity and responsible investment as well as General Partner (GP) firms and other relevant stakeholders. ·

  • You will coordinate investor engagement with other teams across ShareAction who have active relationships with short-listed asset owners for targeted outreach. ·

  • You will build an understanding of how LPs are thinking about responsible investment in private equity, including how they manage their relationships with their private equity managers.

  • You will test the level of interest from LPs for potential further public benchmarking of private equity firms on responsible investment.

  • You will potentially lead a sub-workstream on the topic of private equity within one of our Asset Owner Networks.

  • You will socialise relevant ShareAction asset-manager facing research with LPs as appropriate.

  • You will develop reporting materials for fundraisers, including an end of grant report capturing important findings and key learnings from the engagement undertaken. ·

  • Working closely with the Financial Sector Research team you will develop proposals for potential further research benchmarking workstreams.

  • You will join fundraising calls and workshops as appropriate.

Requirements

What you’ll bring to the team

  • You’ll be strong at project management and a self-starter with the experience at initiating new work streams.

  • You’ll have experience of high-quality stakeholder relationship management, particularly with players from the investment sector.

  • You’ll be highly collaborative and a great team player, keen to share across teams to produce the best results.

  • You’ll understand how to manage a network of members effectively.

  • You’ll have great communication skills and be able to present and write persuasively and with passion.

  • You’ll have strong research skills

  • Particularly relevant, though not essential, would be experience within the pensions or private equity sectors, or with an NGO focussed upon these.

Location: Hybrid: London/Home

Contract type: 12 Month Contract

Salary: £40,000 to £44,000 per annum, dependent on experience. Plus 8 per cent pension (non-contributory) and benefits including a healthcare scheme
