QAA is seeking to appoint three new members to its Advisory Committee on Degree Awarding Powers. This Committee receives and considers applications for degree awarding powers from providers from across the UK and formulates advice to the respective regulatory or governmental bodies responsible for authorising such powers.
QAA is the independent expert body responsible for safeguarding the standards and improving the quality of UK higher education wherever it is delivered around the world. QAA fulfils this vital role by reviewing universities and colleges, being a trusted source of advice and guidance for the higher education sector and UK governments, and contributing to improvements in students’ learning experiences.
This is an exciting time for our organisation as we embrace the significant regulatory reform of higher education across the UK and as the legislative context of our operations transforms. This is an opportunity to contribute to the development of the UK higher education sector, and to gain valuable experience in a non-executive, advisory capacity.
We encourage applications from individuals with an evident understanding of the challenges and changes facing higher education, and the range of stakeholder interests, and a demonstrable appreciation of the changing and increasingly diverse contexts (political, social, financial) within which academic standards and quality in higher education are managed. Applicants will also support our vision and be strong ambassadors for QAA.
In particular we wish to appoint new members who have current or recent experience in one, or more, of the following:
The term of office for successful candidates will commence in June 2021. Committee members are appointed by the QAA Board for a term of three years, renewable for one additional term. The Committee meets four to six times a year, with papers provided one week in advance. Meeting dates are frequently subject to change to enable the Committee to provide timely advice on applications and assessments. Meetings are held online with one annual meeting held in London (subject to government guidelines on travel).

QAA welcomes applications from people in all sections of the community and values diversity.
