Position

Options seeks a Safeguarding Consultant for a period of 6 months. The Consult will support the implementation of the Do No Harm, Safeguarding and Emotional Wellbeing Framework (hereafter DNH Framework), including the development of the necessary tools for effective implementation.

The Safeguarding Consultant is to support the ALM Programme in implementation of the DNH Framework, including the development of the necessary tools for effective implementation. In addition, S/he will develop a partners’ safeguarding capacity strengthening strategy and Coordinate and manage safeguarding matters during the upcoming sub-national political, economy, analysis (PEA) process (including primary data collection at community level) in Isiolo and Narok counties.


The consultant will train consortium partners on Safeguarding and the Code of Conduct, including appropriate conduct for all those involved in the programme and how to submit and respond to reports under the ALM Programme reporting systems
The Consultant will be responsible for coordinating Safeguarding matters for the ALM programme and across the different partners, which will involve travel to certain programme sites. The Consultant will lead on safeguarding in certain key workstreams and will provide safeguarding support and advice for all ALM Programme workstreams.

Requirements

  • The perfect candidate should have the ability to navigate difficult circumstances with a calm demeanour and in a methodical, analytical manner with a deep capacity for empathy.
  • Understanding of and experience maintaining a consistent survivor-centred lens in safeguarding practices.
  • Deep knowledge and experience in programmatic diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Advanced degree in social sciences/humanities, gender, law, international relations, or another applicable field preferred.
  • 5 years or more years of professional experience with safeguarding principles, including capacity building on rights-based and survivor-centric safeguarding approaches
  • Should be skilled in identifying and mitigating risks and have strong facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Have an understanding and experience in gender transformative approaches to ending FGM/C.
  • Have experience of safeguarding, GBV or child protection work within Kenya/ East African region
  • Ability to communicate, problem-solve, and facilitate collaboration effectively with a culturally diverse and geographically dispersed team. Be ready to work remotely (including use of digital technology such as Zoom, Microsoft Teams etc), with occasional travel to programme sites within Kenya.
