Position

This Supplier Quality Engineer position is part of the Supply Chain and Manufacturing team and reports to Senior Supply Chain Manager. The Engineer will make quick decisions based on quantitative and qualitative analysis and will be based in either Shanghai or the Guangdong province, in P.R. China. The Supplier Quality Engineer is responsible for:

  • Manage day to day execution of quality system, quality assurance activities, facilitate and implements improvements to the quality system while maintaining compliance with applicable operating procedures.
  • Build and foster strong relationships with suppliers with proactive communications, frequent meetings, and visits. 60-80% travel expected.
  • Develop a deep technical understanding of product functional requirements, and manufacturing processes and practices to ensure appropriate process controls are in place and being practiced. Assist team in developing comprehensive process FMEAs and Points of quality Assurance.
  • Qualify supplier processes; Work with suppliers to ensure manufacturing process consistency using Statistical Process Control.
  • Work with supplier and OGE engineers, design, run and analyze DOEs. Develop and optimize OGE’s manufacturing processes to deliver high process capability and high yields
  • Utilize supplier quality system audits to assess compliance to control plans and quality system requirements at suppliers. Drive corrective action to improve supplier quality systems to meet the needs of OGE.
  • Implement appropriate tools and certify inspection methods at suppliers to enable “Dock-to-Customer”
  • Assist in NPI activities including prototyping, supply chain development, change management, BOM creation, material disposition, etc.
  • Manage day-to-day supplier audits to ensure high quality finished goods are being shipped to our customers.
  • Develop an overall quality plan in order to realize operational and business objectives.
  • Exercise engineering and business acumen to analyze cost reduction efforts as well as the financial impact of various alternatives

Requirements

  • The successful candidate will have a BS degree in Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent, and a minimum of 4-8 years related quality/manufacturing experience.
  • Very strong analytical skills including MS Excel and Word.
  • High integrity, a strong work ethic and be a self-starter as well as have the ability to juggle multiple projects.
  • Demonstrating a sense of urgency is essential. This position requires a hands-on, problem-solving, multitasking team member who can has a strong understanding of quality, New Product Introduction (NPI) and supply chain management.
  • Experience defining and driving a quality strategy – including metric definition, alternative testing methodologies are extremely important.
  • Hold a high level of proficiency in managing a global supply chain with particular expertise in low cost geographies including Asia.
  • Experience with supplier quality planning, supplier qualification using PPAP. Experience in controlling processes using Statistical Process Control
  • Technical knowledge of solar, batteries, energy storage and LEDs is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and present status, action, recommendations, and other technical information at all levels.
  • Ability to build strong relationships with and influence supplier personnel.
