With a distributed global team concentrated in East and West Africa, Amsterdam, Shanghai and California, we’re now looking for a Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineer to work within our Supply Chain and Manufacturing team.

The Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineer will report to the Manager of Manufacturing Engineering.  Ideally, the candidate will have solar and energy storage industry experience with the ability to make quick decisions based on quantitative and qualitative analysis. You will thread the needle among our Operations, Engineering and Manufacturing teams, ensuring a healthy and successful partnership between design, manufacturing, logistics and sales. Your laser focus on the intricacies of manufacturing and power electronics designing for excellence will ensure that our energy systems and accessories serve our customers’ needs every day, all day for years and years.

You will be a key member of the Supply Chain and Manufacturing team. This position will work closely with our Engineering and Manufacturing teams during the product development, sourcing, and prototype phases of our products while maintaining a clear focus on preparing these products for low rate and high-volume production into our outsourced manufacturing facilities and internal operations. 

As the Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineer you will be responsible for:

  • Design products from scratch as much as in adapting existing products into our portfolio.
  • Collaborate with SF Hardware Engineering to develop mechanical/structure design solution.
  • Participate in proposals and program design reviews ensuring product is designed for manufacturability.
  • Execute the concept and detail design of mechanical components and assemblies on CAD.
  • Responsible for mechanical design outputs, including effect drawing, 3D design, 2D drawing, BOM and other related design work.
  • Design related documentation generation and sustaining.
  • Generate and execute validation test plans to qualify new product design, process changes, use of alternative components and suppliers, and/or changes to product design.
  • Collaborate with Production Engineering, Supplier Quality, and Sourcing teams to identify design weaknesses, opportunities to increase manufacturing yields, and ways to reduce BOM costs.
  • Co-work with cross functional teams (Sourcing, Quality) to develop new suppliers, support RFQ projects.
  • Lead the tooling DFM and first off tool sample verification.
  • Define and procure required equipment and tooling (for test, quality and production) of new and existing products at CM.
  • Provide technical oversight and manage external contractors and consultants as required.
  • Training of production personnel for new product assembly.
  • Lead product development and design projects when required.
  • Coordinate with all required functions in China, including new product testing and qualification.


  • BS/MSc. In Product Development, Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Familiar with SolidWorks and AUTOCAD.
  • Ability to speak and write in English fluently and idiomatically.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and present status, action, recommendations, and other technical information at all levels. 
  • Ability to build strong relationships with, and influence supplier and engineering personnel.
  • High integrity, a strong work ethic and be a self-starter as well as have the ability to juggle multiple projects, and willing to take additional responsibility.
  • Knowledge of EMC, Safety and DFx (DFM, DFA, DFR) is preferred.
  • Proven Mechanical Engineering skills (5+ years), preferably in product development, manufacturing of consumer electronics, solar and energy storage, and/or production quality control.
  • Familiarity with dimensional measurement techniques and proficiency with tolerance and stack-up analysis. Depth of experience in manufacturing assembly and processing techniques for consumer electronics, cosmetic and functional finishes, materials science and production fixture design.
  • Experience explaining technical issues and influencing product and process design change with results/data, working with other engineering teams to arrive at solutions.
  • Experience managing new product introduction of high mix, low volume products.
  • Technical knowledge of solar modules, batteries, energy storage and LEDs.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
