At MSF UK/IE, we support MSF's operations by building relationships with our supporters, increasing awareness of our work, raising funds, providing specialist medical expertise, ensuring MSF staff have access to relevant higher education programmes, catalysing change on medical humanitarian issues, and recruiting field staff. MSF UK/IE personnel are dynamic, hard-working, enthusiastic and committed to MSF's values and aims. In addition MSF continues to build upon its presence in Ireland to become a widely recognised, accepted and respected humanitarian organisation among Irish audiences, and within the Irish humanitarian and political sector.


Position

MSF UK is looking for an experienced and passionate advocacy/humanitarian affairs profile with experience and interest in the health, wellbeing and rights of migrants and refugees. This exciting role is focused on challenging policies that cause harm to migrants and refugees in the UK and beyond, using MSF’s medical evidence from operations around the world, including in the UK, to demonstrate the medical and humanitarian impact of such policies. This comes at a particularly exciting time when there will likely be a new government in place and therefore offers a chance to develop MSF UK’s strategic approach to affecting change in relation to migration policy.


The role includes providing humanitarian affairs support (including visits) to the UK project providing care to people seeking safety held in mass containment sites in the UK as well as collaborating with other MSF operational centres and sections for context updates and explore and develop possible joint advocacy and communications opportunities in reaction to migration. The role also includes maintaining and developing relationships with the UK medical community, refugee and other related sectors.


Hours: Full Time – 37.5 Hours per week

Duration: 6 Months FTC (Maternity Cover)

Location: London - Hybrid working

Reports to: Head of HAARP

Salary: £51,577.05 per annum

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE


  • A degree or experience in migration studies / international politics / social work / law etc.
  • In-depth understanding and experience of, and keen interest and passion working in, forced migration contexts, on the social determinants of health and with people who have been forcibly displaced.
  • Excellent written and oral presentation skills, including ability to critically analyse documents.
  • Experience writing up research and / or briefings for external use.
  • Ability to work as part of a team on and offline and across departments and OCs.
  • Ability to work flexibly and independently and take initiative for learning opportunities.
  • Ability to build relationships / collaborate with external organisations and individuals as well as within MSF.
  • Ability to manage time, with competing priorities, projects.
  • Desirable: Work experience with MSF in migration context.
  • Experience in the practical use of personal IT equipment and Microsoft Office 365 suite. The ability to effectively collaborate and communicate within a hybrid working environment utilising Teams, SharePoint, One Drive and Yammer.
