Position

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Be able to work alone or as part of a team to strict standard operating procedures (in accordance with international standards, including ISO/IEC 17025:2005)
  • Assist in maintaining fully stocked laboratories which includes managing a compliant suppliers list.In addition, ensure purchased stock levels of required consumables are at an optimal level and quality within the department.
  • Routine environmental monitoring, lab cleaning and housekeeping.
  • Coordinate the Laboratory clinical waste, chemical, sharps and standard waste collections.
  • Ensure that equipment is serviced, externally calibrated and their records are stored / updated according to QMS guidelines
  • Perform the internal calibration of pipettes, balances and thermometers
  • Document temperature control checks, expiry dates, QA passed materials and stock goods received as required
  • Preparation of chemical reagents and solvents in accordance with strict procedure guidelines and expiry dates requirements.
  • Perform routine laboratory processes involving the handling of biological material, receiving forensic and transfusion specimens, case initiation and exhibit assessment.
  • Assist with the destruction, returns and correct storage of exhibits
  • Assist with the pagination / archiving / retrieval of case files
  • Maintain up-to-date records of control and use of the drugs reference collection.

Qualifications

  • Educated to A-level minimum, including a Science subject (Degree level qualification in a science subject preferable)
  • Laboratory practical experience (via prior employment or academia)

Terms & Conditions

  • Salary £16,800 per annum – increasing to £18,000 following 6 month probation period
  • Hours – 37 per week
  • Holidays – 25 days per annum plus statutory holidays
  • Pension – Contributory
