Position

Duties & Responsibilities

Responsible for the effective management and delivery of key IT projects from initiation through to implementation and where appropriate, accreditation

Responsibilities

  • To produce business cases for key IT projects that can be evaluated at Board level, prior to commencement.To include project plans; risk assessments; budgets; timescales; resource requirements; methodologies for validation, end user testing and implementation
  • To establish and participate in small, dedicated project teams to ensure holistic and timely management in line with business targets
  • Revise IT policy, quality documentation and protocols to support the implementation of productions
  • Analyse the business requirements of all departments to determine their technology needs and work with them to draw up development plans
  • Generate timely progress reports to keep the Head of IT and senior managers informed of project progression in relation to target delivery dates and budget
  • Work with operational teams to identify more efficient and cost-effective technology solutions
  • Inspect the use of technological equipment and software to ensure functionality and efficiency
  • Identify the need for upgrades, configurations or new systems and report requirements to the Head of IT
  • Undertake network infrastructure architecture and capacity planning – including network stability, security and performance
  • To engage with police customers, UKAS, Forensic Science Regulator officials and other key stakeholders to ensure projects meet the requirements of quality standards and the criminal justice system
  • To devise and implement training protocols for educating KFS staff in the safe and effective use of IT systems
  • To support the Head of IT in fulfilling corporate objectives in line with the overarching business strategy
  • To work closely with the KFS Quality & Compliance Team to ensure IT systems, protocols and operations comply with quality standards and information/data security requirements in line with the Forensic Science Regulator Codes of Practice

Personal Attributes

Requirements

  • Experience in the management of large and small scale infrastructure or IT projects
  • Experience in evaluation, testing and implementation of IT systems
  • Experience within a technical, service sector would be an advantage
  • Sound understanding of computer systems (hardware/software), network protocols and infrastructure design
  • Experience in the management of project budgets
  • Experience in working with external IT service providers and other stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Outstanding communication skills, able to commune at all levels
  • Experience in team management

Qualifications/

experience

  • A degree or vocational qualification in project management or IT
  • Project Management experience in a technical sector such as science, healthcare or engineering
  • Experience in hosted cloud service provision would be beneficial

Terms & Conditions

  • Hours – 37 per week
  • Location - Multi-site; may be based from home or any KFS site
  • Salary - £30-£45k per annum, depending on experience
  • Holidays – 25 days per annum plus statutory holidays
  • Pension – Contributory
