The successful candidate will work to aid the investigation of crimes committed contrary to the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971 and assist other team members with the analysis of seized materials to identify and quantify controlled substances.

Duties and Responsibilities

           Working under instruction, examiners are responsible for:

• Preparing a package of information that supports the preparation of witness statements for use in court proceedings
• Writing descriptive notes on the contents of submitted items
• Preparing samples for analysis
• Assessing and collating analytical results
• Facilitating recovery of other forensic evidence

           There may be opportunities to:

• Obtain basic skills in DNA recovery procedures, where these are required to be used on drugs wrappings.
• Develop reporting competency at the Forensic Scientist level.

• Highly motivated, who approaches work with a positive attitude
• Must be willing to take on a high level of responsibility
• Uses own initiative to achieve timely completion of work
• A thorough understanding of good laboratory practice and anti-contamination protocols is essential
• Ideally the candidate will be familiar with TLC,GCMS and HPLC

Qualifications

• Educated to Degree level in a Science discipline

Experience

• Experience of working in a related environment is desirable
