Our team of forensic scientists are experienced in the interpretation and reporting of a wide range of evidence types in support of criminal investigations.

Position

Role Summary

Examiner of firearms and related items for forensic purposes including identification, classification and testing. Potential development of role to court-presenting and shooting incident work.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Make contemporaneous examination notes, photographs and diagrams as appropriate; create and keep accurate records of all work undertaken.
  • Work alone or as part of a team to strict standard operating procedures (in accordance with international standards, including ISO17025).
  • Handle firearms and related items in a safe manner.
  • Act as safety observer during test-firing of firearms.
  • Operate, test-fire or dismantle firearms and related items.
  • Conduct equipment performance tests
  • Maintain records for stock and reference materials
  • Participate in off-site examinations or crime scenes with experienced scientists, as required.
  • Attend court to give factual evidence if required.

Qualifications

Scientific Degree or equivalent.

Experience

Experience and training within another forensic discipline is an advantage.

Terms & Conditions

  • Hours – 37 per week
  • Location - Warrington
  • Salary - £16,800 per annum, rising to £19,000 following completion of 6 month probationary period
  • Holidays – 25 days per annum plus statutory holidays
  • Pension – Contributory
