Position

The Energy Trading team is primarily responsible for hedging natural gas and electricity on behalf of large clients.  The successful candidate would be responsible for maintaining trading system data and for sending written market reports to clients.  The role involves in-depth market analysis to determine factors that are driving wholesale energy prices.  Updating and checking data is also a major part of the role, which must be done with a high degree of accuracy.  The position would be suited to an enthusiastic, proactive and organised individual, with an aptitude for attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.    

 

This is an entry-level role, which would suit a recent graduate, or someone with some experience in a related role, who is looking to further their career by specialising in risk management / trading. This role is Grade 3 and for the right candidate we are offering up to and including £26,000 annual salary, depending on experience.  

Requirements

Main Responsibilities

  • Record and audit trades – check transactions against supplier and client trade confirmations and resolve any queries
  • Update trading database – set up and maintain customer information, ensuring that records are accurate and up to date
  • Data checks – check internal and supplier data to ensure that the client’s position and trades have been accurately recorded 
  • Resolve queries on behalf of the trader
  • Market analysis – monitor wholesale gas and electricity market drivers, energy price trends, supply and demand, global events and related markets (commodities, foreign exchange and equities)
  • Market / client reports – update written market reports to inform about price movement and drivers

Requirements

 

  • Educated to degree level or relevant role experience – both formal and ‘on-the-job’ training will be provided
  • Knowledge of energy markets and fundamental drivers is advantageous, but not essential
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Highly organised - ability to complete tasks to deadlines, whilst remaining accurate and compliant to process
  • Numerical aptitude / precision – the trading team manage high value contracts and therefore accuracy and attention to detail is vital
  • Logical thinker, with strong analytical skills
  • Enthusiastic, proactive and self-motivated
  • IT – Proficient with standard Microsoft Office applications
