Position

The Energy Trading team is primarily responsible for hedging natural gas and electricity on behalf of large clients.  The successful candidate would be responsible for supporting traders with trade execution, client reports and energy market updates.  The role involves in-depth market analysis, to support trading decisions, trading recommendations and communication to clients.  The position would be suited to an enthusiastic, proactive and organised individual, with an aptitude for attention to detail, and excellent communication skills.    

The role would suit a candidate with recent graduate, or someone with some experience in a related role who is looking to further their career by specialising in risk management / trading.

  • Trading support – assist trader with client management, trade execution, trade recommendations, reports, market updates and general admin
  • Market analysis (technical and fundamental analysis) – monitoring energy price trends, supply and demand, global events and related markets (commodities, foreign exchange and equities) to determine price direction
  • Market / client reports – provide written market reports / presentations to inform about price movement and drivers
  • Client communication – provide verbal / written market analysis to support trader with conference calls / meetings / emails to clients
  • Data checks – check internal and supplier data to ensure that the client’s position and trades have been accurately recorded  

Requirements

  • Educated to degree level or relevant role experience – both formal and ‘on-the-job’ training will be provided
  • Knowledge of energy related markets and fundamental drivers is advantageous, but not essential
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills – reporting to clients / traders is a significant part of the role, therefore communication and presentation skills are important
  • Highly organised - ability to complete tasks to deadlines, whilst remaining accurate and compliant to process
  • Numerical aptitude / precision – assisting trader with high value contracts and therefore accuracy and attention to detail is vital
  • Logical thinker, with strong analytical skills
  • Enthusiastic, proactive and self-motivated
  • IT – Proficient with standard Microsoft Office applications, strong Excel skills and adaptability to use software such as Reuters Eikon
