Warning! Vacancy expired

Company Description

Founded in 1922, the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) is the UK based and internationally recognised qualifying body and learned society for chemical, biochemical and process engineers. We exist to advance chemical engineering’s contribution for the benefit of society.

We support our members in applying their expertise and experience to make an influential contribution to solving major global challenges, and we are the only organisation permitted to award Chartered Chemical Engineer status and Professional Process Safety Engineer registration.

Position

We are looking for a lively, creative and dynamic individual with experience of working in a fast-paced editorial role to join The Chemical Engineer member magazine team.

The post holder’s primary role is to check and edit the news and feature articles written by our in-house editorial team and external engineering experts ahead of publication in IChemE’s printed member magazine and on its website. You will be responsible for ensuring all copy is written in engaging, clear English, is free of errors, complies with house style, is the correct length, and is appropriate for the Institution’s global audience. Our readers contribute to solving some of society’s most pressing challenges including climate change, and equitable access to energy, water, food, and medicine. You will help shape our coverage of these important topics, and you will be instrumental in maintaining the high standards of a publication that is considered a key benefit by the institution’s international membership.

You will have a related degree and/or 5 years’ experience in a related role; excellent working knowledge of Adobe InDesign; and experience working with external contributors. A background in science, engineering, technology or maths is desirable but not essential.

Requirements

Core responsibilities of the role include:

  • Sub-editing internally and externally written articles
  • Monitoring workflow and liaising with the journalist team, external contributors, and advertising agents to ensure receipt and editing of all material to deadlines
  • Managing and updating our style guide
  • Creating email newsletters produced by the publications team

Other information

This position is based in Rugby (CV21 3HQ) with flexible working arrangements in place meaning you will be working three days from the Rugby office and the remainder working from your UK home location. There will be times when you may be required to attend the workplace on remote working days as and when IChemE requires. Should this happen we will give you reasonable notice.

Only candidates eligible to work in the UK will be considered.

This is a permanent full-time role based on 37.5 hours per week working Monday through to Friday.

Starting salary is circa £32,000 per annum (depending on experience) plus benefits which includes an excellent pension scheme.

The closing date for all applications is Sunday 18 June 2023. IChemE reserves the right to interview exceptional candidates and make an offer of employment before the closing date should we wish.
