We are seeking a suitable candidate to join our Drug Discovery chemistry team as a synthetic chemistry specialist.

We have an opportunity for a laboratory-based role focused on innovative synthetic chemistry problem-solving skills to support the Sosei Heptares’ structure-based drug discovery platform and pipeline delivery.

Successful candidates will contribute to the overall scientific deliverables of the organisation by defining and implementing synthetic chemistry strategies, with opportunities to lead aspects of in-house and CRO teams. They will also play a key role in drug discovery project teams, interacting with scientists from other disciplines, including computational chemistry, molecular pharmacology and drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK).

The Role

The successful candidate will be expected to work both independently and as part of a wider team of scientists and:

  • Deliver high impact across multiple discovery projects by applying high end synthetic expertise and state of the art methodology
  • Enable syntheses and scale up of key molecules and templates
  • Drive synthetic excellence to enable more rapid progress of programmes and ‘open up’ novel chemical space
  • Perform effective troubleshooting and problem solving of challenging chemistry
  • Introduce and sponsor novel synthetic methodologies to the wider medicinal chemistry department
  • Represent and advocate synthetic medicinal chemistry within Sosei Heptares and in external settings
  • Lead CRO chemists to support synthesis enablement and delivery of target compounds
  • Maintain the highest levels of Health and Safety

Requisitos

Educational Requirements

A PhD, or BSc/MSc with equivalent experience, in Chemistry or related discipline

Desirable Skills and Experience Requirements

  • 2-5 years of relevant industry or academic (e.g. post-doc) synthetic experience
  • High level understanding of organic synthesis with track-record of applying deep knowledge in a practical setting
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and ability for lateral thinking
  • A track record of impacting drug discovery programmes through synthetic innovation or a track record of consistently enabling novel synthetic methods and/or successful application of novel methods to challenging synthetic targets in an academic environment
  • Ability to work highly effectively both in team environments and independently
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to clearly communicate chemistry strategies to team, management, and collaborators both verbally and in written form, in English
  • Desire to gain experience and expertise in the medicinal chemistry and drug design
  • Enthusiasm to broaden understanding of the related scientific disciplines that are pertinent to drug discovery and early development (e.g. chemical biology, computational chemistry, structural biology, pharmacology, ADME, drug safety, and IP).
