Position

We are seeking a Scientist/Research Scientist to join our multidisciplinary and highly collaborative discovery chemistry team.

We have an opportunity in a laboratory-based role which focuses on the synthesis of target molecules, but which also offers an opportunity to develop molecule design and Medicinal Chemistry expertise.

Successful candidates will play a role in drug discovery project teams, interacting with scientists from other disciplines, including computational chemistry, molecular pharmacology and drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics (DMPK).

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to work both independently and as part of a wider team of scientists and:

  • Maintain high synthetic chemistry productivity that impact drug discovery programs
  • Improve existing methods and develop new synthetic strategies to support novel molecule designs
  • Communicate key data and synthesis results at internal scientific meetings
  • Enthusiasm to learn new aspects of medicinal chemistry with growing confidence in molecule design
  • Be flexible and able to adapt to meet team requirements demonstrating excellent time management skills
  • Maintain high levels of Health and Safety within the Medicinal Chemistry team

Requirements

Educational Requirements

A PhD, or BSc/MSc with a minimum 2.1 degree or equivalent (awarded or expected), in Chemistry or related discipline

Skills and Experience Requirements

We are seeking candidates whose profile will include:

  • High level understanding of organic synthesis and ability to apply such understanding in a practical setting
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and ability for lateral thinking
  • Accurate record keeping and strong attention to detail
  • Enthusiasm and motivation for drug discovery
  • Ability to work highly effectively both in team environments and independently
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to clearly communicate chemistry strategies to team, both verbally and in written form, in English
