Posizione

We are currently seeking an experienced protein crystallographer to join the crystallography team within the Biomolecular Structure department responsible for the structure determination of membrane proteins to support Sosei Heptares’ drug discovery efforts.

This is an exceptional opportunity to participate in pioneering science with an Industry-leading Drug Discovery company.

The successful candidate is expected to:

  • Express and purify soluble and integral membrane proteins for biophysical and structural characterisation
  • Set up and optimise crystallisation experiments
  • Screen crystals and collect diffraction data remotely at synchrotron sources
  • Determine, build, refine and validate crystal structures
  • Maintain and update crystallographic software and pipelines within a Linux environment
  • Propose, develop, implement, optimise, and maintain workflows and pipelines to accelerate structure determination using X-ray crystallography
  • Prepare and effectively present results (written and oral) to project teams (internal and external)
  • Have strong interpersonal skills and interact effectively with collaborators (internal and external) across a wide range of disciplines including Pharmacology, Medicinal Chemistry, and Computational Chemistry

Requisiti

Our preferred candidate will have the following:

  • PhD in protein crystallography or a related discipline
  • Experience in protein purification from recombinant expression systems (bacterial, eukaryotic)
  • Experience in soluble and/or membrane protein biochemistry and structural biology
  • Extensive experience in setting up and optimising crystallisation experiments
  • Proficiency in crystal screening, data collection and processing, structure determination, building and refinement
  • Significant experience in a variety of data integration and processing software packages
  • Demonstrated experience in shell and python scripting
  • Experience in high-throughput crystallography
  • Understanding of GPCR and other integral membrane proteins (transporters, ion channels) structures and mechanisms
  • Experience working in a drug discovery environment where X-ray diffraction structural studies are used to inform ligand design
  • Excellent organisational skills
