Position

We are seeking a mass spectrometry scientist to join the Biophysics team at our research facility on Granta Park, Cambridge, UK. Within the Biophysics team, the mass spectrometry group focus on the development and application of mass spectrometry-based assays to characterise membrane proteins in support of the drug discovery pipeline.


The successful applicant will have extensive hands-on experience in diverse mass spectrometry techniques to quickly integrate into this highly motivated and focussed group. With appropriate training, the successful candidate will be expected to work independently and will be responsible for the design, performance, analysis and interpretation of various mass spectrometry experiments. They will also be involved in support activities to enable the smooth running of the laboratory. The successful candidate will be expected to interact and collaborate effectively with teams across Sosei Heptares to plan experiments, collate data and present results.

Requirements

Essential Requirements


· Candidates should possess a PhD (or MSc + 2 years industrial experience) with a degree in Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related field with emphasis in mass spectrometry.

· Hands-on experience in sample preparation and handling for various quantitative and qualitative MS analyses.

· Experience in HPLC method development.

· Highly motivated, organise individual with excellent attention to detail and critical data analysis skills.

· Desire and flexibility in learning new techniques.

· Very good organisational skills with ability to deliver to tight timelines.

· Excellent communication and team-working ability.


Desirable


· Development and validation of mass spectrometry methods for the quantitation of peptides and small molecules using SRM and/or PRM.

· Hands-on experience with intact mass and native MS analysis of proteins.

· Experience in protein preparation and handling for structural MS studies.

· Experience in developing and performing structural MS analysis (e.g. HDX).

· Good understanding of protein purification and characterisation. Prior experience of working with membrane proteins would be a plus.

· Proteomics experience including database search and preparation of samples from in-gel digests.
