Position

About the role

The ECF’s UK Programme exists to help broaden and deepen the political and social consensus for decarbonisation while securing actions to put Britain on track for net zero. As the next phase of emission cuts involve front of house decisions about how we heat our home and what kind of car we drive, we aim to strengthen and improve the diversity of the debate to ensure a fair transition that continues to enjoy strong public support. The UK Strategic Communications Manager is responsible for developing and implementing strategic thinking, planning, and grant-making, reporting to the UK Director.


Key responsibilities

Grant strategy:

· Develop strategy and oversee grant-making for UK strategic communications and citizen engagement, and monitor, evaluate and report on this work

Grant-making:

· Lead grants focused on strategic communications, audience research and some direct citizen engagement activity

· Support grants led by Senior Associate related to digital engagement, campaigning and organising

· Ensure strategic comms is woven throughout rest of the UK portfolio, where relevant (due consideration is given to audience, message, messenger and channels)

· Provide ad-hoc/ongoing strategic comms advice to grantees and other partners

Audience insights:

· Act as a guardian and champion of Britain Talks Climate within ECF and the sector

· Keep on top of audience research from across the sector to provide a clear sense of when and how attitudes are changing and inform strategy

Networking and convening:

· Convene partners to share insights and expertise

· Line manage Senior Associate

Requirements

Requirements - essential

· 8-10+ years of relevant professional strategic communications experience

· Track record in developing and deploying communications and citizen engagement initiatives tailored for specific audiences and channels/fora

· Clear strategic understanding of the relationship between public opinion, campaigns/communications, and political change

· Excellent collaboration, diplomacy and influencing skills, with the ability to operate in a networked organisation and facilitate effective alignment and action among a diverse group of colleagues and partners

· Strong project management skills, including monitoring, impact analysis & reporting

· Positive, can-do attitude, and flexible, learning mindset

· Some knowledge of the media, campaign & policy landscape on climate change

Location

The role can be based anywhere in the UK, with the expectation of being in the London office at least one day a week.
