Social Listening & Insights Associate, Strategic Communications (flexible location)

European Climate Foundation Bruxelles Belgium Strategic Communications
Warning! Vacancy expired

Company Description

The European Climate Foundation (ECF) was founded in 2008 as a major philanthropic initiative to help tackle climate change by fostering the development of a low-carbon society at the national, European and global level.

We support over 500 partner organisations to carry out activities that contribute to the public debate on climate action, drive urgent and ambitious policy in support of the objectives of the Paris Agreement and help deliver a socially responsible transition to a net-zero emissions economy and sustainable society in Europe and around the world.

As towns, cities and countries around the world declare climate emergencies, seas rise, forests burn, glaciers melt, increasing numbers of people take to the streets demanding urgent action and our societies begin to wake up to what the science has been saying for many years, there has never been a more important time to be working on climate change.

Position

ECF’s Strategic Communications team is looking for a Social Listening & Insights Associate to join its Audience Insight team.

This is a vital moment in the struggle to save the planet and future generations from the worst impacts of climate change. It’s more important than ever that we campaign and communicate effectively: with messages that work, to audiences that have the power to effect the change we need. The successful candidate for this job will work at the very heart of those efforts.

As our Social Listening & Insights Associate you will support a network of campaigners and communications professionals around the world to ensure we deliver winning climate campaigns based on the best audience insight possible. In doing so, you will join a growing Audience Insight team that’s becoming a pivotal part of the way the organisation fights for change.

Reporting into the Project Manager, Audience Insights you will design, conduct, and deliver bespoke digital insights. Central functions of this role include developing research questions, understanding audiences, constructing hypotheses, making comparative analysis to help relevant stakeholders make decisions, and evaluating the effectiveness of these insights against the strategic objectives of the network.

Key responsibilities

  • Consulting stakeholders on project and topic definition, and parameters to define objectives and set deliverables for bespoke social listening reports.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to perform social listening analysis for campaigns/events or on topics, and present insights back to inform campaign strategy.
  • Technical social listening setup including identifying keywords, query parameters, and dashboards.
  • Pulling and interpreting relevant data from social listening tools including mention volume, sentiment, conversation drivers, influencers, etc.
  • Creating and editing reports that transform social data into a clear story. Visualise findings legibly using decks, charts, tables and infographics, and provide actionable insights based on concrete data.
  • Staying apprised of the latest digital listening and insights trends and technologies.
  • Share case studies and best practices with relevant stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Experience pulling data from social media listening/analytics tools such as Talkwalker, Audiense, Brandwatch etc.
  • Strong familiarity and understanding of social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Blogs, Forums, Instagram and Tumblr required, as well as an understanding of their limitations.
  • Strong strategic understanding of social listening and online audience identification.
  • Ability to think creatively about alternative sources of data for insights, to help provide real-world context to the insights provided (e.g. presenting findings within political, social or country-specific settings).
  • Fluency in English, both spoken and written, with knowledge of any other language is an asset.
  • Be able to properly set and communicate expectations with stakeholders based on program scope, reporting schedules and follow through on delivery.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and proven ability to transform data into a concise, yet compelling story.
  • Ability to synthesise information and produce insightful and accurate analysis and recommendations to inform strategic communications.
  • Comfortable presenting insights to a variety of audiences.
  • Highly organised and impeccable attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and deliver accurate reports without grammatical or data errors.
  • Understanding of climate, political, advocacy, or social justice movements.
  • A familiarity with issue campaigning.
  • Understanding of media/PR, and using insights to craft headlines would be a plus.
