We support over 280 partner organisations to carry out activities that contribute to the public debate on climate action, drive urgent and ambitious policy in support of the objectives of the Paris Agreement and help deliver a socially responsible transition to a net-zero emissions economy and sustainable society in Europe and around the world.

Position

About the role

The International Energy Programme is a platform of ECF. The goal of the programme is to support strategies to secure clean energy around the world in the interests of healthy citizens and a healthy climate. The programme looks for strong, effective and inspiring plans to address the barriers to the transition in the energy sector, and this role will focus on transnational financial flows.

The Senior Associate, Finance Programme will join a direct team based in Europe, the US and Africa. The post holder will work on transnational financial flows with a focus on encouraging a shift away from high carbon finance.

Key responsibilities

The post holder will contribute to strategy development, work with all partners and grantees, manage grants, identify opportunities and monitor the progress of different work streams. There will be direct engagement with stakeholders engaged in the financial sector and co-ordination with other ECF programmes and platforms, partners and funders in designing and aligning strategies.

The Programme Manager will be responsible for:

  • Strategy input and implementation: support the Director, team, and key external strategy advisors in operationalizing the strategy, related priorities and budgets; developing and executing a monitoring and evaluating process and impact of initiatives and grants; and acting as a liaison to report regular progress to funders and our team.
  • Grant-making: administering grant making process including refining the scope of work for different steams of work; validating and refining proposals from potential partners; drafting recommendations for the consideration of the team and our funders.
  • Research activities & prospecting: scoping the landscape around local and national climate politics and advocacy, or cross-cutting projects with other teams in the organisation, as well as identifying potential new projects & grantees.
  • Internal coordination and communication: liaising with ECF’s other programmes, external advisors, and platform teams to ensure consistency and complementarity of different projects and work streams.

Requirements

Experience and competencies

  • A genuine interest in the mission and values of the ECF;
  • The applicant should have 5-8 years of relevant work experience in civil society, government, foundations or the private sector;
  • Relevant work experience is around bringing about change for instance in the public policy arena;
  • Affinity for work on finance (While we do not require experience, we do require demonstable affinity for work in this area if candidates do not have direct experience)
  • A demonstrable ability to learn new areas of work quickly;
  • Demonstrably strong networking skills that enable effective collaboration with a diverse group of partners;
  • Strong presentation and representation skills;
  • Structured, driven and able to manage many processes simultaneously;
  • Proven track record of working in an environment that demands professionalism, discretion and confidentiality;
  • Excellent collaboration and influencing skills;
  • English language essential, knowledge of other languages welcome but not essential;
  • Enthusiastic personality, with a positive, can-do attitude.
