Company Description

About the European Climate Foundation

The European Climate Foundation (ECF) is a major philanthropic initiative working to help tackle the climate crisis by fostering the development of a net-zero emission society at the national, European and global level.

We support over 700 partner organisations to carry out activities that drive urgent and ambitious policy in support of the objectives of the Paris Agreement, contribute to the public debate on climate action and help deliver a socially responsible transition to a net-zero economy and sustainable society in Europe and around the world.

The ECF brings together diverse perspectives and backgrounds to find the best innovative solutions to tackle climate change. We are focusing on engaging and hiring great people from a wide diversity of backgrounds to strengthen the cause. If you share our values of respect, innovation, and collaboration, join us.

Position

The ECF Germany programme works with a wide range of partners in civil society, think thanks, politics, business and academia to support positive action on climate and energy in Germany.

We work to build political will for more ambitious action on climate change; and to develop solutions to the policy and practical challenges to decarbonisation of the entire economy.

The ECF Germany programme is working closely with the ECF Buildings programme to accelerate the decarbonization of buildings including the phase-out of fossil fuel heating and the social dimension of the transition. The successful candidate for this position will take the lead on this work in Germany.

This job offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the development and expansion of the ECF’s programme in Germany, and to influence the climate and energy debates in Germany and Europe.

The post holder will play a key role in providing strategic advice, identifying and developing cooperation with new partners, representing ECF externally and dealing with grant management. The person will be part of the ECF’s Germany programme and will directly engage with the ECF Buildings programme and other partners in designing and aligning strategies.

The post holder will be responsible for:

  • Strategic implementation: supporting the Germany and Buildings programme in further developing and implementing the ECF’s strategy on buildings and priorities in the German context. More broadly, the senior associate will contribute to developing and implementing the energy and climate strategy for the ECF in Germany, engaging with a wide network of partners, monitoring and evaluating the process and impact of initiatives and grants, and acting as a liaison to external partners.

  • Research activities & prospecting: supporting the Germany and Buildings programmes in scoping the landscape around local and national climate politics and advocacy, as well as identifying and coordinating potential new projects and partners.

  • Networking: building partnerships with key individuals across the policymaking, business and civil society communities in Germany and Europe; managing and growing the stakeholder network around buildings; convening meetings; representing the ECF Germany and Building programmes at meetings and organising follow-up.

  • Strategic grant-making: developing the scope of work for different ECF projects; soliciting and validating proposals from potential German partners; commissioning studies from consultants; facilitating coordination among partners; supporting reporting requirements.

  • Internal coordination and communication: to facilitate the advancement of the ECF’s Buildings strategy in Germany, the senior associate is a member of ECF’s Germany programme; s/he will liaise with other ECF programmes, where appropriate, including the Buildings programme and the organisation’s operations and strategic communications teams, to ensure proper and timely dissemination of information, and consistency and complementarity of different projects and work streams.
