The advertised position is with the Global Strategic Communications Council (GSCC) – a global network of communications professionals in the field of climate, energy and nature. GSCC is a collaborative project hosted by the ECF.


Through our work, we aim to contribute to a world with a safe and stable climate for current and future generations. We hope to build broad support for just, inclusive, and equitable solutions to the climate crisis.


Our philanthropically funded work focuses on media debate and public discourse at the global level and in major economies across Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia and the Americas. We support a diverse range of partners across sectors and geographies, helping them add their voices, views and insights to the conversation.

Position

The ECF’s Strategic Communications Team is currently accepting applications for the role of Senior Communications Associate.


Working as part of an international team of expert communicators, the successful candidate will provide strategic communications capacity on issues related to climate change, energy and finance through media work, outreach, effective storytelling and intel sharing so as to create more political space for action


This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and highly driven communications professional with the ambition to make a difference and play an active role in helping speed up the low carbon transition internationally.


This person will report to the Asia Director- GSCC.

  • Key responsibilities
  • Track the important developments around climate, energy and adjacent issues with a focus on energy transition in Asia.
  • Develop relationships with and engage a range of stakeholders, including those from policy, research, media, investors, trade, and civil society, to develop relationships that can support media stories on accountability for climate action;
  • Build an active editorial community of reporters and editors who are covering climate and energy through proactively sharing news briefings, newsletters, and story pitches;
  • Support key spokespeople on climate action with communications advice to help them better understand the media landscape in Asia;
  • Analyse the trend and flow of investment in the fossil fuel energy sector to come up with evidence for communications strategies;
  • Create and develop new products like newsletter, podcasts and other formats of media materials to proactively manage the narrative with data driven and fact based inputs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with relevant actors in the industry, media, policy sphres on our topics, while leveraging them to create and amplify media opportunities.
  • Help the Asian teams to create evidence based communications, rapid responses and reactive media outreach on relevant topics of interest to the climate and energy domain.

Requirements

  • A genuine interest in the mission and values of the GSCC network
  • A passion to create change
  • Extensive professional experience in either journalistic, communications or campaigning
  • Outstanding English language skills
  • Proven skills to produce engaging and impactful written materials
  • A quick and curious learner who asks critical questions
  • A strategic thinker with proven ability to develop and implement robust communications plans
  • Excellent networking and interpersonal skills
  • Existing relationships with key energy, finance, or climate correspondents highly desirable (alternatively the proven ability to develop these swiftly)
  • An independent self-starter able to work on their own and as part of a remote team
  • The disposition to work generously with colleagues in a high-trust global community of peers
  • The versatile and adaptable skills necessary to flourish in a fast-paced and wide-ranging work environment and work across phone/video conferencing, time zones, Slack, email, Trello, etc.
  • A commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach to facing climate change

  • A full-time position with a consultant or employment contract (subject to location) for 12 months, with a possible renewal after one year.

Location

Flexible – must be willing to work across multiple timezones.

Some international travel will be required. We may be able to provide co-working spaces in some locations.
