The European Climate Foundation (ECF) was founded in 2008 as a major philanthropic initiative to help tackle climate change by fostering the development of a low-carbon society at the national, European and global level.

 We support over 280 partner organisations to carry out activities that contribute to the public debate on climate action, drive urgent and ambitious policy in support of the objectives of the Paris Agreement and help deliver a socially responsible transition to a net-zero emissions economy and sustainable society in Europe and around the world.

Position

The ECF’s Strategic Communications Team is currently accepting applications for an experienced and highly driven individual to perform the role of Investigations Manager and to work closely with the Research Director and the Investigations Director.

The Investigations Manager will be responsible for:

  • Devising a strategic framework and direction for investigative research as a strand of strategic communications work;
  • Devising a programme of work to bolster research and reporting in key markets, develop systems, processes, structures and capacity that can drive excellence in investigative approaches;
  • Working with an international network, to integrate investigations including advising on opportunities, risks and best practice, and collaborating to identify how investigative work can support network activities.
  • Building alliances and relationships with the global community of researchers, practitioners and journalists who work in this space;

Requirements

  • 8+ years of professional experience in the fields of campaigning and/or investigative journalism;
  • Extensive experience of working in a journalistic environment, excellent journalistic instincts, and a solid understanding of journalistic ethics;
  • A strong network of contacts across the communities of investigative journalism and civil society, with a particular focus on those working on climate change;
  • Experience of leading cross-border investigation projects, whether in a journalistic or campaigning context;
  • A team player and a natural collaborator with high levels of self-motivation and a passion for excellence, used to working flexibly at fast pace in remote settings and across time-zones;
  • Strong time and priority management, high level of independence and can-do mentality, and an ability to make sound decisions in highly pressured environments;
  • Willingness and ability to travel and work unusual hours from time to time, due to challenges of being part of a global network;
  • The disposition to work with colleagues in a high-trust community of peers, and a commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach and a spirit of generosity and mutual support;
  • Excellent command of the English language (written and spoken) with other languages and intercultural experience a plus.

Location

Negotiable, but should have no more than 5 hours difference with UK time zone. Co-location with colleagues depends on location. Some international travel required.
