Position

About the role

As HR Manager, you will be supporting the Strategic Communications team and report to the Operations Director, Strategic Communications. You will act as the main liaison between the Strategic Communications team and the ECF central HR team, ensuring alignment, close collaboration, and smooth management of all HR relevant issues in line with the organisation’s strategy and values. This role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and flexible HR generalist who wants to lead human resource management in a growing international team.

The ECF’s strategic communications team is the outreach unit of the foundation. Its role is to act as a centre of expertise for communication on climate change and to play an active role in helping create more political, media and public endorsement for ambitious action to address the climate emergency at an international, national and sectoral level. Team members deliver strategic advice, communications and outreach support to ECF’s programmes and partners, and work as part of an international network of communications experts to enhance the public debate on climate change and its solutions more broadly.

Key responsibilities

As HR Manager, Strategic Communications you will be responsible for:

  • In coordination with central HR, developing, updating and implementing recruitment and other HR policies and processes in support of the overall organisation strategy;
  • Overseeing and participating in recruitment processes;
  • Providing inputs for staff and consultant contracts and ensuring their legal compliance;
  • Liaising on payroll, compensation and benefits with central HR;
  • Overseeing and implementing HR processes to support and develop the Strategic Communications team through talent management, including objective setting, appraisals, organising trainings, promotion processes, etc.;
  • Managing onboarding and leaving processes, including induction and exit interviews;
  • In coordination with central HR, planning and executing the development of procedures related, but not limited to health & safety and pastoral care, including potential mediation and coaching.

Requirements

Experience and competencies

  • A genuine interest in the mission and values of the ECF;
  • 8+ years of relevant professional experience in the field of human resources with a focus on recruitment and development in large international teams (50+ people);
  • Solid understanding of compensation and benefits and relevant legal knowledge, payroll experience desirable;
  • Demonstrable experience in working in an intercultural environment, preferably in different settings such as non-profit organisations, start-ups, corporate, etc.;
  • A creative and proactive attitude towards organisational change and improvement;
  • Ability to effectively communicate and manage interpersonal relationships at all levels in the organisation;
  • Tact, empathy and discretion;
  • Flexible self-starter comfortable to work in a fast-paced international environment;
  • Excellent command of the English language (both spoken and written), additional languages an asset;
  • Familiarity with relevant IT tools including MS Office, cloud-based collaboration, HR management tools;
  • The disposition to work with colleagues in a high-trust global community of peers with a spirit of generosity and mutual support;
  • A commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach to addressing the climate emergency.
