Position

About the role

The Finance & Grants Officer will be a key member of the Finance team and will have responsibilities within the Finance team related to the different stages of grant and consultant contracting, including pre-contract preparation, contract management, reviewing of reports and executing payments, as well as other different ad hoc tasks in the finance department when necessary. The Finance & Grants Officer will report to the Finance & Grants Manager.

Key responsibilities

The specific duties and responsibilities include:

  • In charge of the financial review of grant requests during the docket review process: checking budget proposals, payment schedules and other financial requisites;
  • Responsible for generating the grant agreement documents, sending them to grantees and following up on returned contracts; checking submitted financial reports and handling payments to grantees in the bookkeeping software an in the online banking system;
  • Daily bookkeeping and financial tasks such as filing, bank statement matching and financial document checks, creating new organisations and entering bank details in the bookkeeping software as needed;
  • Regular checks in the grant management system for outstanding payments, due reports, returned grant agreements, approval limits, payment confirmation letters;
  • Handling requests from staff related to financial grant procedures and grant management system;
  • Participating in audit preparation and implementation of audit recommendations linked to grant management.

Requirements

  • You have 2 – 4 years’ experience in a financial department, preferably in an international organisation or a private foundation;
  • You have a degree in finance, accounting, business administration or another relevant area;
  • You have a strong interest in climate and the environment;
  • You consider yourself to be a completer/finisher and you have strong attention to detail;
  • You are a proactive and enthusiastic team player, but also able to work independently and to be discreet;
  • You have strong problem-solving skills with a positive, can-do attitude;
  • You enjoy juggling various tasks and you are able to prioritise effectively;
  • You enjoy working with numbers;
  • You computer literate and are at ease with the MS Office suite;
  • You have experience and easiness with IT systems, grant management systems and financial management information systems is plus;
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, professional level of Dutch is a plus.
