Company Description

About the European Climate Foundation

The European Climate Foundation (ECF) was founded in 2008 as a major philanthropic initiative to help tackle climate change by fostering the development of a low-carbon society at the national, European and global level.

We support over 350 partner organisations to carry out activities that contribute to the public debate on climate action, drive urgent and ambitious policy in support of the objectives of the Paris Agreement and help deliver a socially responsible transition to a net-zero emissions economy and sustainable society in Europe and around the world.

Position

About the role

The ECF seeks a dedicated writer to support its emerging EU Green Deal diplomacy team. The writer will be responsible for a wide range of products that use the written word to shape political interventions, research diplomatic cooperation and present or describe our activities. This could include: briefings for a network of partners in the climate community, input papers for informal diplomatic workshops, targeted research briefings or short updates to funders on our work.

The Diplomatic Writer’s tasks will involve mainly writing and researching but will require strong presentation skills as well. The role will involve bringing many strands of information together into high-quality written products for communicating with different audiences (policy-makers, funders and partners in the climate community).

Key responsibilities

  • Research, draft, and develop targeted written material for different audiences (policy-makers, funders, partners in the climate community) in collaboration with the ECF’s programme staff and with external consultants, as needed;
  • Develop and deliver a regular updated to funders incorporating news from across the Green Deal diplomacy work at the organisation;
  • Follow a range of bilateral and sectoral cooperation as part of the Green Deal at the European and international level with a view to present it to a non-expert audience;
  • Provide evidence-based research and political framing around key political moments related to the EU Green Deal.

Requirements

Experience and competencies

  • Strong interest in addressing and communicating on climate change;
  • Relevant experience between 2-4 years;
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with proven ability to translate complex concepts into succinct, clear, accessible language for multiple audiences;
  • Experience in a relevant position preferred, e.g. working in cabinets of ministers or politicians;
  • Strong project management skills: attention to detail, ability to set priorities and complete tasks in a timely manner;
  • Enthusiastic team player with the ability to work across different departments and to interact with all levels of management and external partners, in a multi-cultural environment located across many different locations;
  • Outcome-oriented, focusing efforts on achieving efficient, timely, quality results;
  • Native level (spoken and written) of the English language; knowledge of other European languages preferred;
  • Track record of working effectively to deadline, and dealing with pressure;
  • Enjoys working independently but in a collegial manner with a remote virtual team.
