The advertised position is with the Global Strategic Communications Council (GSCC) – a global network of communications professionals in the field of climate, energy and nature. GSCC is a collaborative project hosted by the ECF.


Through our work, we try to contribute to a world with a safe and stable climate for current and future generations. We hope to build broad support for just, inclusive, and equitable solutions to the climate crisis.


Our philanthropically funded work focuses on media debate and public discourse at the global level and in major economies across Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia and the Americas. We support a diverse range of partners across sectors and geographies, helping them add their voices, views, and insights to the conversation.


Position

About the role


As a communications strategist, you are responsible for contributing to the development of a strategic communications work, which includes building and sustaining narratives on climate and energy, and you will work with and support various partner organisations as well as traditional news media.


To be successful in this role you will have a keen interest in climate change debate and experience working in organisations within the climate and energy verticals.


Key responsibilities


  • Develop and deliver the GSCC South Korea strategy
  • Act as a source of local intelligence and information for the network
  • Develop, convene, maintain, and facilitate networks of partners across policy and political issue interests to drive stronger operational impact
  • Provide communication services, strategic advice and media relations to partners and campaigns in the region as well as the global network and global campaigns
  • Work with the global network to contribute to research as required and to deliver relevant content localized by territory, processing ACT packages by other GSCC desks and producing regional ACT packages for the network
  • Assist, attend and/or lead on major international events in other geographies as required
  • Act as a contact point for the network for key international partners where required
  • Contribute to monitoring, evaluation and reporting on communications efforts, as and when required
  • Work with vendors and freelancers who can support some of the key tasks mentioned above

Requirements


  • A broad and detailed understanding of issues in the climate and energy space, backed up by work experience in organisations within on those sectors
  • Experience working in communication or news media focusing on climate change civil movements
  • Native Korean speaker, and good understanding of English. Other Asian languages a plus
  • Knowledge of trends in the use of digital tools to engage key audiences
  • A team player and a natural collaborator with high levels of self-motivation and a passion for excellence, used to working flexibly at fast pace in remote settings and across time-zones
  • Willingness and ability to travel and work unusual hours from time to time, due to challenges of being part of a global team
  • The disposition to work with colleagues in a high-trust community of peers and a commitment to an inclusive and empowering approach and a spirit of generosity and mutual support
