The European Climate Foundation (ECF) was founded in 2008 as a major philanthropic initiative to help tackle climate change by fostering the development of a low-carbon society at the national, European and global level.

We support over 300 partner organizations to carry out activities that contribute to the public debate on climate action, drive urgent and ambitious policy in support of the objectives of the Paris Agreement and help deliver a socially responsible transition to a net-zero emissions economy and sustainable society in Europe and around the world.

Position

Description of the role

The ECF board is composed of 11 high-level individuals, comprising both ECF funders and key European strategic thinkers. The Board and its associated committees meet in person 3 times a year, with period calls in between. The Board Liaison Officer will be the primary person in charge of organizing all logistical aspects of meetings, tracking board-related deadlines and documents, and following up with Board members’ offices as well as with ECF staff to organize the preparation of relevant materials. The ECF Advisory Committee is a smaller, more internationally oriented body, which meets in person with the board 1 time a year.

This position reports to the Chief of Staff to the CEO.

Key responsibilities

Support to the Board and Advisory Council

  • Responsible for the logistical arrangements of Board and Advisory Council meetings and events.;
  • Coordinate overall board docket and contribute to preparation of Board documents, jointly with Chief of Staff, Operations Manager and Budget Officer;
  • Create and oversee implementation of Board and Advisory Council overall workplan for the ECF;
  • Coordinate and liaise with Board and Advisory Council members’ offices, ECF staff, partners and suppliers on Board-related matters;
  • Ensure proper information management and assist in the preparation of onboarding materials for new board members;
  • Assist in the preparation and revision of policies and procedures relevant to the Board and Advisory Council;
  • Track and manage board-related rules and timelines, such as member terms;
  • Monitor and manage the Board and Advisory Council budgets;
  • Take minutes at Board meetings, as requested by the Chief of Staff.

Other

  • Contribute to the organisation of the annual staff & partners retreat and other ECF initiatives;
  • Undertake other reasonable and related tasks, in discussion with the Chief of Staff.

Requirements

Experience and competencies

  • 2 – 5 years of experience;
  • Ability to meet deadlines; accomplish work in order of priority;
  • Detail oriented and highly organized when composing, typing, and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting deadlines;
  • Confident and comfortable in communicating with high profile individuals in-person, via phone, email and mail;
  • Engaging interpersonal skills, including excellent judgement, tact, and political acumen and discretion in preparing, disclosing and handling information of a confidential and/or sensitive nature; professionally maintain neutrality;
  • An excellent teammate who can effectively collaborate, influence stakeholders using a variety of styles, act with discretion, and maintain confidentiality;
  • Commitment and ability to work in a networked organization, with multiple stakeholders at different levels;
  • Ability to work across multiple stakeholders and time zones;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Interest in climate and the environment.
