The European Climate Foundation (ECF) was founded in 2008 as a major philanthropic initiative to help tackle climate change by fostering the development of a low-carbon society at the national, European and global level.

We support over 280 partner organisations to carry out activities that contribute to the public debate on climate action, drive urgent and ambitious policy in support of the objectives of the Paris Agreement and help deliver a socially responsible transition to a net-zero emissions economy and sustainable society in Europe and around the world.

Position

Context of the role

The Germany Programme of the ECF works with a wide range of partners from civil society, think tanks, politics, businesses and movements, seeking to build political will for more ambitious climate action in Germany. The position of the Associate, Germany Programme is an excellent opportunity to contribute  to our efforts of realising the Energiewende and the European low-carbon transition at a crucial point in time.

Key responsibilities

The associate will assist and work in the Germany team, in close cooperation with the Germany Programme Director, to support the programme’s objectives and the director’s day-to-day activities. The associate will have a focus on scoping new areas of the foundation´s work around Vekehrswende and climate movements.

The Associate will be responsible for:

  • Programme support: planning and organising internal and external meetings, taking notes in meetings, preparing slides as well as attending and reporting back from relevant events, helping to prepare strategy meetings, monitoring and evaluating progress, impact of initiatives and grantees as well as acting as a liaison to report progress to donors
  • Grant-making: acting as a liaison between programme colleagues and the grants officer with regards to grant making and grantee reporting cycles. This includes reviewing and evaluating grantee proposals, communicating with grantees and keeping an overview of the programme budget
  • Research & Networkt activities: supporting the director in different fields of politics and especially the transport sector; scoping the landscape of different climate movements, as well as identifying potential new projects & grantees

Requirements

  • Genuine interest in the mission and values of the organisation, and in supporting a global industry and materials system that does no longer emit greenhouse gases
  • Passionate about climate protection, Energie- and Verkehrswende and new approaches to tackle the climate crisis
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience in either a civil society organisation, philanthropy,  public authority, or an industrial company. Knowledge on the Verkehrswende is an asset
  • Excellent command of the English and German language (both spoken and written)
  • Strong administrative and computer skills (Excel, Powerpoint, Word)
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Enthusiastic personality and a sense of humour
