Position

Context of the role

The ECF Germany Programme works with a wide range of partners in civil society, think tanks, politics, business and movements to support positive action on climate and energy in Germany. We aim to cluster our work not based on political spectrums but on ways to archive more climate ambitions. We reach out from conservatives to climate movements and are open for new approaches to foster climate protection. We work to build political will for more ambitious action on climate change as well as ensuring a just climate transition. Our aim is to strengthen and broaden the climate action coalition with different means and by different partners.

Key responsibilities

This job offers an excellent opportunity to engage with and support a major ECF programme at an important stage in the development of the climate and energy debate in the Germany and Europe. The postholder will work in close cooperation with the Germany Programme Director and Manager in support of the programme’s objectives and day-to-day activities. You will also be part of ECF’s effort to move the energy sector beyond carbon involving efforts on the phase-out of coal and fossil gas as well as strengthening renewables energies as integral part of future sustainable economies. You will be given room to grow and develop topical expertise. The Associate will be responsible for:

  • Programme support: planning and organising internal and external meetings, taking notes in meetings, preparing slides, attending and reporting back from relevant events, helping to prepare strategy meetings; monitoring and evaluating progress and impact of initiatives and grantees and acting as a liaison to report progress to donors.
  • Grant-making: acting as a liaison between programme colleagues and the grants officer with regards to grant making and grantee reporting cycles. This includes reviewing and evaluating grantee proposals and keeping an overview of the programme budget.
  • Research & Network activities: supporting the Manager around German energy transition politics with a focus on the coal phase-out and sustainable heating. The role encompasses scoping of the challenges related to moving beyond fossil fuels, and while building on existing networks developing and adapting ECF’s energy related activities, as well as identifying potential new projects & grantees.

Requirements

Experience and competencies

  • Genuine interest in the mission and values of the organisation
  • Passionate about climate protection, energy, and new approaches to tackle the climate crisis
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience in either a civil society organization, philanthropic organisation, public authority or business
  • Knowledge on the energy transition and coal and gas phase-out related issues is a clear advantage
  • Good understanding of the German political system
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to prioritize tasks
  • Great organizational and planning skills
  • Strong administrative and computer skills (Excel, Powerpoint, Word)
  • Excellent command of the English and German language (both spoken and written). Other languages (including Turkish, Arabic, ect.) are welcome
  • Enthusiastic personality with a sense of humour
