Warning! Vacancy expired

Company Description

The European Climate Foundation (ECF) was founded in 2008 as a major philanthropic initiative to help tackle climate change by fostering the development of a low-carbon society at the national, European and global level.

We support over 280 partner organisations to carry out activities that contribute to the public debate on climate action, drive urgent and ambitious policy in support of the objectives of the Paris Agreement and help deliver a socially responsible transition to a net-zero emissions economy and sustainable society in Europe and around the world.

Position

About the 2050 Pathways Platform

Launched at COP22 in November 2016, the 2050 Pathways Platform brings together countries, regions, cities and companies (its members) around the importance of long-term planning to maintain climate ambition (see 2050pathways.org for more information). In particular, it encourages countries to develop their long-term low-emission development strategies (as per Article 4.19 of the Paris Agreement). The Platform now supports a number of countries inside and outside its membership for the development of their long-term strategies (LTS), via funding for technical work, stakeholders engagement or process coordination. The Platform is also the Secretariat and animator of the Carbon Neutrality Coalition, a group of countries that decided to promote and lead by example on long-term plans towards net-zero emissions (the Coalition emerged as one of the outcomes of the One Planet Summit).

The Platform also develops the knowledge basis on LTS through its partners and provides a collective safe space for its members and partners working on LTS, during events at UNFCCC meetings and its Annual Meeting. It works in close cooperation with the UNFCCC Secretariat, several bilateral and multilateral donors (Asian Development Bank, Inter-American Development Bank, French development agency, the International Climate Initiative, the World Bank, etc.), think-tanks and civil society organisations at international and domestic levels.

Context of the role

The 2050 Pathways Platform has become the leader and reference point on the development of ambitious and robust long-term strategies internationally. Through its activities, it is involved in the development of long-term strategies in countries as diverse as, e.g., Argentina, Peru, Costa Rica, Nigeria, Morocco, the Gambia, Indonesia, Vietnam, or Singapore, and contributes to raising the profile of ‘carbon neutrality’ (net-zero emissions) in a number of other countries. Within the 2050 Pathways Platform team, the associate will be in charge of some of the Platform’s granting activities and of ensuring that all grantees and partners are informed of the latest best practice in this area.

Key responsibilities

The associate will work in close cooperation with the Executive Director and the Director for Strategy to support the Platform’s objectives and delivery of its strategy. More specifically, the Associate will be responsible for:

  • Grant management: work with potential grantees to develop grant activities for the 2050 Pathways Platform, in close coordination with the Platform’s grant officer. This involves monitoring and evaluating grant activities, ensuring regular communication, identifying possible development areas, working with the communications associate to publicise outcomes.
  • Animation of the network of Platform’s stakeholders: through interaction with grantees and partners, consolidate and share relevant information and practice with the broad network of the Platform’s stakeholders (grantees, partners, governments, development finance institutions, civil society organisations).
  • Secretariat of the Carbon Neutrality Coalition: work with the CEO of the ECF, member countries and colleagues to facilitate outreach to new members, organise discussions among countries to discuss CNC actions around UNFCCC and related events.
