Our team is based at our Head Office just outside The Peak District National Park off jct28 of the M1 corridor.

Position

We are recruiting for a Group Financial Controller to join our finance team based at our Head Office in Alfreton, Derbyshire.


This senior finance position is responsible for overseeing the Group’s financial reporting activities and ensuring compliance with regulations for all regions. Primary duties include oversight of all transactional records and preparation of management and statutory accounts. This includes ownership of the monthly management accounts and month end reporting, cash management and the annual audit. The successful candidate will also actively participate in finance projects, including systems implementation and finance initiatives.


This role requires experience of working with the senior leadership team and influencing senior stakeholders. You will be leading financial reporting, controls, and compliance whilst striving to continually improve processes and systems.


Key Responsibilities of Group Financial Controller (including but not limited to):

  • Responsibility for monthly management accounts and annual statutory accounts and all other financial and business documentation.
  • Identify, implement and maintain effective financial control systems and maintain KPI performance monitoring, ad-hoc analysis and continuous improvement of processes.
  • Deliver improved financial performance as measured by sales, margin, profit, profitability, cash-flow and return on investment.
  • Develop the finance functions of the business and effectively build the capabilities of these teams through systems and improved processes, training and development.
  • Leading and developing direct reports ensuring the highest standards of performance whilst ensuring that the team are continually challenged and learn the ability to challenge.
  • Support the CFO in the management of FX exposure and hedging as appropriate given the international supply chain and currency requirements of the Group.
  • To take a supporting role to the CFO in the development and maintenance of the relationship with the Group’s stakeholders.
  • Manage and control working capital through optimising the Group’s management of debtors, creditors, stock controls and related systems.
  • Pro-active monitoring and reporting on covenants and cash flow forecasting.
  • Oversee and coordinate the company secretarial and legal services required by the business.

Requirements

To join us as Group Financial Controller you must have:


Essential

  • Qualified accountant with 5-10 years PQE with extensive technical experience including multi-currency consolidations, overseas tax and group cash flows.
  • Prior experience of working in a senior finance role in a global business.
  • Experience of communicating complex financial information to non-finance stakeholders.
  • Proficient in managing a large team whilst motivating the team to continually improve.
  • Extensive interpersonal skills and evidence of strong leadership and team working skills.
  • Strong experience of working capital, treasury management and managing currency risk.
  • Proficient in financial software systems and implementing business systems.
  • Self-starter with the ability to business partner and influence decision making within SLT.

Desirable

  • Experience of using Microsoft Navision and/or Business Central.
  • Previous experience of having worked for a retail (or similar) business.
  • Strategically and commercially aware with a commitment to business success.
  • Ability to work at pace, yet also calm, focused and results driven.
  • Determined, hardworking and professional.
