This position is responsible for creating a compelling HSSE vision and working across the breadth of the business to leave a positive HSSE Legacy; and having the gravitas to influence at all levels, you will ensure the development and implementation of industry leading practice.

Key responsibilities include:

Strategy:

  • Identification of HSSE best practice to evolved strategic plans, policies and standards particularly in line with the Fatal Risk Standards.
  • Conduct reviews of HSSE business unit performance indicators and strategic plans
  • Monitor local changes to legislative requirements and make recommendations to DP World Corporate and individual sites on deficiencies created as a result of such changes
  • Act upon preventative measures to ensure minimisation of property damage, injury or human loss, and environmental pollution

Technical:

  • Emergency response and contingency planning including crisis management
  • Provide HSSE expertise to Corporate Governance
  • Plan for optimum human operational efficiences and maximum care for the environment
  • Delivery and implementation of major risk management and reduction projects
  • Demonstrate a compelling vision about employees' well-being, health and safety, and the protection of the environment
  • Undertake training needs analysis for HSSE professionals and work with management to complete training and development activities to close competency gaps within the global business
  • Develop/conduct education and training for senior management
  • Liaise with Procurement function to ensure that asset purchases conform to HSSE standards
  • Ensure compliance of regular security inspections of the port facility to ensure the continuation of appropriate security measures

Leadership/Coaching:

  • Coach, Mentor, Guide and Educate Senior Management in HSSE knowledge, practices and theory to ensure they are enforcing HSSE standards
  • Development of safety leadership program for business units
  • Champion safety at a corporate level

Communication:

  • Review statistics and HSSE data to identify H&S Cost drivers to prioritise cost control efforts and set targets and objectives
  • Monitor audit results and report to senior management
  • Delivery of verbal and written briefs to CEO/MD in relation to safety performance and legislation and compliance

Requirements

  • Degree level of education
  • Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management (NEBOSH or BSC)
  • Chartered Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health or other appropriate discipline
  • Comprehensive understanding of the legal, political, social and human context of occupational health and safety, and significant inspectorial/industrial experience
  • Superior investigative skills with experience in fatalities and disasters
  • Superior communication, relationship development and dispute resolution skills
  • A minimum of 10 years' HSSE experience including experience as a Senior Director in a business with a workforce of over 2,000 and with multiple sites across different locations
  • Previous work experience in implementing, maintaining and auditing: ISO 9001, BSI ISO 14001 and BSI OHSAS 18001

This role is located in the European Regional Office of DP World based in London Victoria, reporting to the CEO and Managing Director of Europe and Russia. The purpose of this role is to be leading HSSE cultural and behavioural change to eliminate the incidence of injury & influencing, mentoring and guiding the Senior Management to result in safety reform.
