Position

Reporting to the Head of Finance, the Management Accountant is responsible for the timely completion of accurate monthly management accounts. The Management Accountant is accountable for accurate and timely reporting of project costing and revenue recognition and posting of project journals. Tasks include:


  • Lead the month end process and prepare monthly management accounts, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
  • Variance analysis between actual and forecasted spend
  • Prepare Core Grant claims and Core Grant reconciliation
  • Maintain accrual and prepayment schedules
  • Balance Sheet reconciliation and bank reconciliation
  • Collaborate with HoDs to prepare the annual budget and then meet monthly to review YTD spend and update the RoY forecast
  • Posting and reconciling monthly payroll
  • Maintain and reconcile the FAR and ensure that capital expenditure is posted in the financial statements correctly (according to funding source). Calculate and post monthly depreciation journal.
  • Responsible for accounting for deferred income
  • Finance business partner to the HoDs
  • Supporting the Head of Finance on ad hoc projects
  • Supporting external audits

Requirements

  • Ideally a qualified accountant (ACCA or CIMA preferred) with industry experience
  • The ability to create both statutory and management accounts within a complex organisation.
  • Experience of managing and consolidating budgets.
  • The ability to engage department managers to help them improve their financial management and decision making.
  • An understanding of the requirements of multiple funding and income sources, particularly Innovate UK, is highly desirable, but not essential.
  • Excellent team working skills with the ability to work collaboratively and co-operatively with colleagues and stakeholders at all levels.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive information with discretion and to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Ability to analyse financial information and draw insightful conclusions to the attention of budget holders.
  • A flexible approach to work including the ability to prioritise and re-prioritise to achieve successful outcomes.
