Position

  • Reporting to the Marine Director in Bahrain or Dubai to strategically lead and grow the subsea pipeline marine technical disciplines targeting water infrastructure projects including desalination plants, wastewater treatment plants and stormwater outfalls within the Middle East region
  • Mentoring and managing knowledge transfer between projects and ByrneLooby offices;
  • Contribute to the marine business development and liaise with ByrneLooby strategic marine partners to seek opportunities for design, site supervision and construction of the marine-related project in GCC;
  • Significant input in the direction of the regional growth of the marine team in terms of technical needs, market sectors and areas;
  • Where opportunities permit and subject to specific requirements, lead any number of projects based resources in countries outside of the core companies above in the Middle East and UK/Ireland;
  • Provide assistance and where necessary lead the production of marine-based tenders and proposals;
  • Assist the Technical Leads and Directors in Bahrain, KSA and UAE in growing the regional presence and look to grow our marine capability regional;

Requirements

  • Management of projects from a technical, commercial and programme perspective;
  • Produce and manage tenders and bids;
  • Pipeline design based to relevant codes and standards: API, ABS, DNV, BV, BS, Eurocode, etc. for intakes, outfalls and pipelines within the water infrastructure sector and particularly with HDPE and GRP pipes
  • Highly experienced in hydraulic modelling assessments
  • Can independently design all aspects relating to the subsea pipeline design including, on-bottom stability, buoyance calculations, pipe stress analysis, pipe routing and alignment;
  • Experienced in the design of outfall diffusers including basic calculation assessments and Cormix modelling;
  • Can design reinforced concrete anchor blocks to BS or Eurocode;
  • Has knowledge of and can review coastal modelling studies including spectral wave modelling, hydrodynamic modelling and outfall dispersion studies;
  • Some oil and gas offshore pipeline design experience is welcomed but not essential.
  • Write reports, undertake and check calculations;
  • Develop specifications, operations, maintenance, testing and commissioning plans;
  • Review contractor's offshore installation methodologies;
  • Preferably gained experience as design engineers/consultants or installation contractors;
  • Fully competent with the required analysis software and identify potential software procurement opportunities;
  • Liaise with material and equipment suppliers;
  • Produce and develop project BOQs and material take-off;
  • Management of marine team project-related finances;
  • Responsibility for the resourcing and utilisation of office staff.

Other information

Qualifications

  • Masters level in Civil / Structural Engineering, Coastal Processes, Hydraulic Engineering or similar;
  • Chartered level in ICE, CIWEM or equivalent;
  • Min 6-10 years of industry experience with a minimum of 3 years in subsea design.
