In 2012 ByrneLooby also acquired PH McCarthy, Ireland’s longest established water and Infrastructure consultancies which has a 125-year history, in 2014 we acquired Cronin Millar a leading marine consultancy in Ireland and in 2016 we acquired Sinclair Johnson a leading structural practice in London.

Position

This is a senior position for a motivated, enthusiastic and entrepreneurial person to lead the company’s Marine and Coastal Engineering service in the Gulf. The position requires a truly exceptional individual with the vision, insight and managerial capability to lead and develop our existing Geo/Marine team in the delivery of excellent services to existing and future clients. Partner management, interfacing with the international offices and revenue generation will form a critical aspect of this role.

The position entails providing technical direction & coordination, revenue generation and strategy development, financial management & people management for the Gulf Marine  Services team.  The role will include recruiting, resource management, staff development, mentoring and day-to-day management of the team as well as P&L responsibility. You will also have responsibility for the oversight of the delivery of projects containing marinas, marine service harbors, breakwaters, quay walls, marine structures, artificial reefs, dredging and reclamation in UAE. Our client base will include Government organisations, D&B contractors and private developers.

The role facilitates the development, implementation & lead of the Middle East Marine strategy in the UAE and other Middle East Markets.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Management of relationships with key clients and contacts across the business including client liaison and development
  • Champion client care initiatives
  • Responsible to the ByrneLooby Managing director – ME  for the delivery of financial targets
  • P&L Responsibility for the UAE  
  • Management of projects within time, cost and quality constraints and standards to include the Management of all third Party and interface with Irish/UK offices where relevant.
  • Project Leader  for  large Marine and Coastal  Projects
  • Overall responsibility for the Delivery of all Marine and Coastal projects
  • Responsible for team motivation and leadership, Performance Management aligned with Group, Functional and individual goal plans
  • Management of the day-to-day work of the team including team motivation and leadership
  • Champions and promotes professional advice, guidance and support across the business through effective business relationships and adheres and promotes in house company processes, e.g. WIP Management, Annual Appraisals, Goal Plans, Quality systems etc.
  • Monitors and manages compliance and KPI’s including QA Compliance
  • Preparation / Review of tender submissions
  • Estimating, pricing and delivering against project work targets
  • Management of engineering outsource partners
  • Stakeholder Management, i.e. Finance department, HR, Quality etc.
  • Recruiting, resource management, staff development including CPD implementation
  • Strategic staffing and recruitment for the Gulf Marine team including the restructuring of the team where appropriate
  • Contribution to ongoing marine Group strategy
  • Partner Management
  • Overall responsibility for delivering technically excellent client solutions

Requirements

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Considerable proven experience in the design and PM of Marine and Coastal Projects. Comfortable in developing, carrying out and overseeing innovative and buildable marine and costal solutions.
  • Considerable proven experience in the field of Maritime Engineering including Maritime Structures, Numerical Modelling, State of the Art simulation, for Coastal and Ports and Harbour areas.
  • Strong D&B and Client-Side Experience.
  • Proven understanding of Middle East Capital Expenditure plans needs associated with the latter and relationships within.
  • Minimum of 15 years’ experience in marine  Services design with extensive experience leading design-build projects as Contractor designer primarily in the Marine and Costal Sector.
  • Has proven experience in Project Management of large Maritime and Infrastructure Projects
  • Has track record for team financial management and project financial controls
  • Proven track record in Business Development / Work Winning in the Marine and infrastructure Services sector
  • Proven track record in developing and growing a team of highly skilled individuals
  • Strong business acumen and a proven ability to manage client relationships          
  • Superior communication skills including international collaboration, team motivation and leadership and client relationship development      
  • The ability to deliver technically excellent client solutions
  • Proven experience of working within a certified QA system for quality.
  • Chartered status or equivalent qualification for a minimum of 5 years.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and its application is beneficial.
  • Demonstrate an ability to understand complex problems and to conceive innovative solutions
  • Adheres to all Codes of Practice, Design Standards and Health and Safety Regulations
  • Represent and promote Byrne Looby in a professional manner and develop effective working relationships with clients and potential clients
  • Is committed to Continued Professional Development and remains up-to-date with current developments in the industry
