Los Angeles is one of the most fabulous and eclectic cities in the world, and we believe that Big Bus can add a great new experience for visitors by utilising our expertise of providing tourists with a never before available experience and the perfect introduction to this world-famous city, helping them to discover and explore the wealth of things to do and places to see.

By expanding into Los Angeles, we are making this our 22nd city that we operate from. This is an exciting opportunity for you to create something very special as you will be part of the opening team and be involved in setting up the operation and infrastructure of the business.

Overall Purpose

Responsible for maintenance of the service operations by inspecting and maintaining the vehicles.

Key Areas of Accountability and Responsibility

  • Keeps equipment available for use by inspecting and testing vehicles; completing preventive maintenance such as, engine tune-ups, oil changes, tire rotation and changes, wheel balancing, replacing filters.
  • Maintains vehicle functional condition by listening to operator complaints; conducting inspections; repairing engine failures; repairing mechanical and electrical systems malfunctions; replacing parts and components; repairing body damage.
  • Verifies vehicle serviceability by conducting test drives; adjusting controls and systems.
  • Complies with state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
  • Maintains vehicle appearance by cleaning, washing, and painting.
  • Maintains vehicle records by recording service and repairs.
  • Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; calling for repairs.
  • Contains costs by using warranty; evaluating service and parts options.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipt.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Accomplishes maintenance and organization mission by completing related results as needed.
  • Wear all safety gear issued including fluorescent vests, hats and boots.
  • Participate in training and staff meetings as required.
  • Take an active role in participating in the Engineering team, including regular liaison with all team members regarding current projects.

Requirements

Skills

  • Ability to read and speak English

Experience/Qualifications

  • At least 2 years’ experience as a heavy diesel mechanic preferably with experience working on buses
  • CDL preferred but not required.

Working Hours and Conditions

  • Full time, 40 hours a week – available to work weekends and flexible hours

Physical Requirements

  • Walking/Standing most of the 8 hour shift 
  • Lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling over 25lbs
  • Overhead lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling
