The purpose of the Karalius Foundation is to develop and deliver quality education to disengaged teenagers with the view to re engaging them into society. The Foundation will offer rich curriculum that supports entry into further education and employment.

Locally: The Karalius Foundation will be a independent special school that will empower  young people through a rich curriculum.

Regionally: The Karalius Foundation will work with local authorities and PRUs regionally to improve the quality of provision offered and provide curriculum support.

Nationally: The Karalius Foundation will conduct national benchmarking and workforce support to improve the quality of education for disengaged young people and in turn will influence policy on a national scale.

Salary - £23,000 - £32,000 inclusive of SEN (dependent on qualifications and experience)

Job Description

The Karalius Foundation is an SEMH independent school that provides education for KS4 pupils. Our curriculum is unique offering qualifications that are designed specifically for our school and cohort of learners. We will offer intense mentoring and support for pupils, placing them in a class with a maximum of 7pupils.

We have high expectations of our pupils; build a secure and happy atmosphere in which pupils can learn effectively.

As an Unqualified Teacher you will carry out the professional duties set out in the most recent Teachers’ Pay and Conditions document and fulfil the Teachers’ Professional Standards within the context of the job description set out below.

Key Responsibilities:

Teaching and Learning Responsibilities

  • To teach pupils according to their educational needs, including the setting and marking of work carried out by the pupils in the school and elsewhere in liaison with other teaching staff
  • To assess record and report on the attendance, progress, development and attainment of pupils and to keep such records as are required by  the Headteacher
  • To contribute to written assessments, reports and references relating to individual pupils and groups of pupils
  • To undertake a designated programme of teaching or CPD training to assist with teaching pupils with SEN
  • To ensure a high quality learning experience for pupils
  • To prepare materials for the day
  • To use a variety of delivery methods which will stimulate learning appropriate to student needs and demands of the syllabus
  • To mark, grade and give written/verbal and diagnostic feedback as required
  • Provide a stimulating and well-structured learning environment suitable for pupils with SEMH difficulties
  • Participate in  and take responsibility for your continuing personal professional development
  • Support the school through developing a consistent approach to behaviour management, teaching and learning, marking, assessment etc. following relevant school policies
  • Promote pupil progress through the effective use of learning support

General

  • Contribute to the accurate and appropriate use and maintenance of up-to-date recording systems including those related to attendance, behaviour, progress and learning etc.
  • To undertake annual reviews and contribute information to pupils undergoing EHCP process.
  • To communicate with parents about everyday issues in school.
  • To be responsible for a specific tutor group and the registration of them pupils.
  • Demonstrate a critical understanding of strategies, processes and developments within SEND and reflect this understanding in daily practice.
  • Carry out any other duties appropriate to the level expected of an unqualified teacher.
  • Take reasonable care of the health and safety of yourself, other people and resources whilst at work.
  • Cooperate with the leadership and management of the school as far as is necessary to enable the responsibilities placed upon it under the Health and Safety at Work Act to be performed e.g. operate safe working practices.
  • You will be expected to carry out your duties in line with school policies, procedures and relevant legislation.  You will be made aware of these in your appointment letter, statement of particulars, induction, ongoing performance management and development.
  • You are required to promote and actively support the school’s responsibilities towards safeguarding. Safeguarding is about keeping both our pupils and yourself safe and protecting young people from harm, neglect, abuse and injury. It is about creating safe places, being vigilant and doing something about any concerns you might have. It isn’t just about the very old and the very young, it is about everyone who may be vulnerable.

GENERAL AND SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • ICT Literate        
  • Ability to work and plan as part of a team                             
  • Ability to use a range of classroom management and teaching strategies to engage pupils and promote progress                             
  • Understanding and knowledge of approaches to a variety of positive behaviour management.   
  • Ability to differentiate teaching to support all pupils and their SEN                            
  • Skills to work with pupils in escalation, and strategies help aid desculation            

Desirable            

  • Evidence of having influenced the quality of learning, in present establishment
  • Skilled in the use of nurture and outdoor learning or able and committed to developing these skills in a short amount of time

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Experience of working with pupils who have social, emotional and mental health difficulties
  • Experience of topic based planning and assessment                        
  • Experience of implementing intervention strategies to support pupils     

Desirable

  • Recent experience of teaching/ supporting the learning of children in the secondary phase
  • Experience of nurture provision and outdoor learning                     
  • Experience of planning and monitoring personal learning package
  • Experience of liaison and co-operation with other professional agencies

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Essential

  • G.C.S.E Maths, English at Grade C             
  • Commitment to continue professional development, evidence of recent INSET   

Desirable           

  • Qualifications linked to working with children with SEN                  
  • Successful completion of a course of study in relation to child development or education e.g. N.V.Q. in Childcare and Education or equivalent

  • A commitment to the whole school philosophy and a desire to continually strive for improvement            
  • Willingness and ability to undertake Essex Steps training and work within "good practice" guidelines using a range of positive handling strategies, gradual and graded, involved in holding, guiding and escorting safety, from least intrusive to more restrictive holds.     
  • Willingness to undertake an enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check and an Asylum & Immigration check.  Please note that a conviction may not exclude candidates from appointment but will be considered as part of the recruitment process.

Desirable

  • Have a full driving license and a vehicle available for work purposes including the transportation of pupils
