The purpose of the Karalius Foundation is to develop and deliver quality education to disengaged teenagers with the view to re engaging them into society. The Foundation will offer rich curriculum that supports entry into further education and employment.

Locally: The Karalius Foundation will be a independent special school that will empower  young people through a rich curriculum.

Regionally: The Karalius Foundation will work with local authorities and PRUs regionally to improve the quality of provision offered and provide curriculum support.

Nationally: The Karalius Foundation will conduct national benchmarking and workforce support to improve the quality of education for disengaged young people and in turn will influence policy on a national scale.

Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 dependent on experience

Job Description

The Karalius Foundation is an SEMH independent school that provides education for KS4 pupils. Our curriculum is unique offering qualifications that are designed specifically for our school and cohort of learners. We will offer intense mentoring and support for pupils, placing them in a class with a maximum of 7pupils.

We have high expectations of our pupils; build a secure and happy atmosphere in which pupils can learn effectively.

As the Pastoral Manager you will be responsible for leading and managing behaviour, attendance and family intervention. You will work closely with the Head of Foundation and Well-being and Mental Health Lead, you will be part of the senior leadership team.

Core purpose:

  • Be an inspirational leader that creates an ethos and culture of high staff morale.
  • Secure excellent attendance and punctuality by all pupils across the foundation.
  • Lead on establishing and implementing a safe, calm and well-ordered environment for all pupils and staff, focussed on safeguarding pupils and developing their exemplary behaviour in the foundation and in the wider society.
  • Strategically plan and implement interventions that enable all pupils to overcome personal obstacles and challenges so that they make maximum progress and attainment.
  • Lead on the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the foundation behavior policy and strategy.
  • Promote excellent classroom behaviour and attitude to learning by leading on Essex steps within the foundation.
  • Track, monitor and evaluate behaviour, attendance, and punctuality across the foundation and implement quality assurance procedures, reporting regularly to SLT and Governors.
  • Use data analysis to inform development planning that improves attitude to learning, behaviour, attendance, and punctuality across the foundation.
  • Lead on pupil safeguarding, Prevent strategies, child sexual exploitation strategies, the single central record, and internet and e-safety.
  • Liaise effectively with external agencies to ensure the welfare of pupils in the foundation.
  • Lead on transition from foundation into post 16 provision.
  • Hold all staff to account for their professional conduct and practice.
  • Lead by example to foster an open, transparent and equitable culture.
  • Lead on looked after children within the Foundation
  • Build, develop and maintain effective relationships with parents and all members of the foundation and wider community to enhance the education of all pupils.
  • Work with mental health and wellbeing lead to provide effective family intervention.
  • Keep pupils safe and support the Executive Head Teacher to implement and oversee the highest possible standards of child protection, Prevent strategies and safeguarding throughout the foundation.
  • Represent the foundation at relevant panels, working groups and meetings as required by the Executive Head Teacher.
  • Undertake other duties and responsibilities as is reasonably directed by the Executive Head Teacher.

  • Demand ambitious standards from all pupils, overcoming disadvantage and advancing equality, instilling a strong sense of accountability in staff for the impact of their work on pupils’ outcomes.
  • Support the Executive Head Teacher to create an ethos within which all staff are motivated and supported to develop their own skills and subject knowledge, and to support each other.
  • Hold all staff to account for their professional conduct and practice.
  • Provide a safe, calm and well-ordered environment for all pupils and staff, focussed on safeguarding pupils and developing their exemplary behaviour in foundation and in the wider society.
  • Develop effective relationships with fellow professionals and colleagues in other public services to improve academic and social outcomes for all pupils.
  • Develop monitoring process for risk management plans and physical intervention
  • Train staff in Essex Steps and trauma informed approaches to challenging behaviour.
  • Develop relationships with home, and set up interventions  that can be delivered with families.
  • Develop a support system that will encourage effective home school communication and relationships.

GENERAL AND SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Essential

  • ICT Literate        
  • Ability to work and plan as part of a team                             
  • Understanding and knowledge of approaches to a variety of positive behaviour management.    
  • Skills to work with pupils in escalation, and strategies help aid desculation            

Desirable            

  • Evidence of having influenced the quality of learning, in present establishment
  • Strong organisational and administrative skills with a keen eye for detail
  • Skilled in the use of nurture and outdoor learning or able and committed to developing these skills in a short amount of time

RELEVANT EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Experience of working with pupils who have social, emotional and mental health difficulties
  • Experience of writing and developing risk management plans and physical restraint plans
  • Experience of implementing intervention strategies to support pupils                     
  • Experience of liaison and co-operation with other professional agencies                
  • Experience of working with a therapeutic approach towards behaviour management      

Desirable            

  • Recent experience of working in senior management
  • Experience of leading on whole school behaviour
  • Experience of nurture provision and outdoor learning
  • Minimum of 2yrs experience of leading on Safeguarding

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

Essential

  • G.C.S.E Maths, English at Grade C,             
  • Commitment to continue professional development, evidence of recent INSET                   
  • Essex Steps tutor or equivalent qualification                        
  • Level 3 Safeguarding
